HELP!

Hello everyone,

I need help! I work for a small non-profit organization and the company that was handling the accounting for us isn't going to do it anymore so I need to take care of the book keeping. I don't have a clue what to do or where to start. The Quickbooks Mac Plus 2022 was installed in my computer with all the data from last year's accounting. I'm supposed to start entering all the data for the month of January from 3 different banks. I've never used Quickbooks. I downloaded the January report from one of the banks and that was easy to import but for the other two the format doesn't allow me to import.

The company paid for support but I don't know where to call or who can walk me through this software.

HELP!

Welcome to the Community, @Les76. It's my pleasure to share with you some information about basic accounting while working with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac so you can work with your bank entries seamlessly.

At this, QuickBooks supports the .qbo file when importing bank transactions. Please make sure that your file is supported so you can bring your transactions to QuickBooks.

To get started, log in to your bank's website to get the file from there. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu, then select Website. This opens a browser window to your bank’s website. You can also download transactions outside QuickBooks. Just open a browser and go to your bank’s website.
  2. Sign in to your online banking account.
  3. Go to your transactions, then enter the time you wish to display. If you’re not asked for a date range, you’ll see the maximum number of transactions your bank allows. Steps on how to download QuickBooks Web Connect files vary per bank. If you’re not sure how to download the .qbo file from their website, contact your bank for help.

When the .qbo file is ready, you can import it to QuickBooks following these steps:

  1. Open your QBDT for Mac file.
  2. Go to Banking, then Downloaded Transactions.
  3. Select Import File, then look for the .qbo file you downloaded.
  4. Once QuickBooks finished importing your transactions, select OK. This displays your transactions in the Downloaded Transactions window.

When the transactions are added to QuickBooks, you can categorize them manually.

Once the entries are in place, I'd suggest keeping up with your reconciliation to keep to match the balances. You can learn more about reconciliation from these links:

To ease the process of handling your bank entries, you may connect your banks for an online banking connection. You can click on the Set up Direct Connect link from this article as your reference: Set up online banking for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Aside from the banking feature, you can also get more resources while working with your other transactions in QBDT for Mac from this link: Find QuickBooks help articles, Community discussions with other QuickBooks users, video tutorials, a.... From there, select the topic you need from Account managementExpense and vendorsReports, and more.

If you have any other questions while working with QBDT for Mac, let me know by adding a comment below. I'm always here to provide additional assistance. Keep safe!
