Welcome to the Community, @Les76. It's my pleasure to share with you some information about basic accounting while working with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac so you can work with your bank entries seamlessly.
At this, QuickBooks supports the .qbo file when importing bank transactions. Please make sure that your file is supported so you can bring your transactions to QuickBooks.
To get started, log in to your bank's website to get the file from there. Here's how:
- Go to the Banking menu, then select Website. This opens a browser window to your bank’s website. You can also download transactions outside QuickBooks. Just open a browser and go to your bank’s website.
- Sign in to your online banking account.
- Go to your transactions, then enter the time you wish to display. If you’re not asked for a date range, you’ll see the maximum number of transactions your bank allows. Steps on how to download QuickBooks Web Connect files vary per bank. If you’re not sure how to download the .qbo file from their website, contact your bank for help.
When the .qbo file is ready, you can import it to QuickBooks following these steps:
- Open your QBDT for Mac file.
- Go to Banking, then Downloaded Transactions.
- Select Import File, then look for the .qbo file you downloaded.
- Once QuickBooks finished importing your transactions, select OK. This displays your transactions in the Downloaded Transactions window.
When the transactions are added to QuickBooks, you can categorize them manually.
