Enterprise 2019 upgrade has changed my screen settings. My icons keep moving to the left even though I keep marking they should be on the top and now I have lost the listing of open windows on the left. Quickbooks is arbitrarily changing my settings.
Any help is appreciated.
Hi, @timminskm.
Thanks for posting in the Community. I'm here to help fix your icon bar in QuickBooks.
Let's suppress your QuickBooks first to reset the settings. Here's how:
Once done, change the icon bar's setting to the top. Then let's make sure to save the desktop view. Here's how:
As always, you can contact our Desktop Care Support if you need assistance in going through the steps.
Here's how you can reach them:
1. Go to: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
2. Choose your QuickBooks Product.
3. Select your QuickBooks Version.
4. On the Contact Us page, click a topic.
5. Click on the Get Phone Number button to see the support number.
That should do it. Let me know if you have additional questions. I'll be here anytime you need help.
@Anonymous
Please Learn from this input. The Preferences you show does not control the Icon Bar. The Icon Bar is controlled from the View Menu.
Yes, there are some Bugs in the program from recent updates. Please see my attachment; I even get Both Icon Bars, sometimes, which should be impossible.
I make the change constantly. It doesn't stay that way. I saw somewhere someone said this is a bug with QB2019. I have reported it numerous times.
Thanks for bringing this situation to my attention, @timminskm.
I understand it can get frustrating to have your issues at repeated occurrences, and i appreciate you for sending bug report about this issue. Let's toggle your QuickBoosk icon bar by clicking the Lists at the top menu bar, select the Top Icon Bar and Left Icon Bar multiple times.
Additionally, make sure you have the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know how it goes by clicking the Reply button below. Have a good one.
Not sure what you're suggesting. Yes we have the latest version of QB 2019. You said to click on list. You must click on View to change location. I change it when QB decides to throw it to the left. Just an annoyance especially since it worked before. Change something and break something else.
Hi timminskm,
Currently, we don't have an open investigation about the changing position of the icons, but we're very much willing to check this further.
If you haven't tried repairing QuickBooks, please do so. Then, let's observe if the position changes or it will stay. If the same thing happens, please contact our phone agents for further checking.

Can you also post a fix for a similar problem in QB 2019 for Mac? Without my changing anything, it toggles between showing only deposits, showing only debits, then sometimes showing all transactions or some combination of them but all out of order by date. There is no way I've discovered to put them back in the usual order of either by date or check number. The options for Mac do not look like the ones you posted above. Thank-you.
Hi @G Dawson,
I understand that there isn't a repair option for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, what you can do is to verify and rebuild your company data.
Here's how you can verify your company data:
Here are the steps to rebuild your company data:
You can also contact our Technical Support team if you've already tried the steps I provided above and you still have the same issue. Follow the steps mentioned by my colleague, @JessT.
Additional details on what you can expect when you try to verify and rebuild data are in this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop. It has the common reasons why you'd want to do a verify and rebuild data along with what to expect during the verification process.
Don't hesitate to leave a comment below, in case you have any other questions. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
This is a long-standing issue (well before 2019) and has yet to be addressed by Intuit. From our experience... 90% chance the "icon bar" settings are lost during any QB version update (patches and upgrades)
Thanks Ryan. I was able to rebuild the desktop. However, now another problem is happening, which has happened periodically before. I can't open my company. I log in, select open company, and am given a greyed-out list of my backups, the only clickable one being a Windows backup. Then I went under open recent company. I select an option, and immediately QB announces it is making a backup, and does. Then the login window opens and has me sign in again. I do, and the process repeats. Now after about the 6th time I have done this, I get the usual green square with option to select a company. I do and the same process repeats. I am exasperated. Any ideas?
First, I wrote a detailed description here and clicked post. The login screen came on. I signed in and now my message is deleted. Here we go again. I rebuilt and verified the desktop: thanks for the idea. Then more trouble began. I doubleclicked the backup icon to remount it, but it doesn't seem to do so, as I click open company and am given only one option that is not greyed out: the windows backup. I cancel that and click open recent company. Then a backup immediately begins. If I don't interrupt it, I get another login window despite being logged in. I have to select open company or recent company and the process repeats. I've tried this over and over, including rebooting, with the same result. I am so exasperated. Any ideas?
I can see that both of your recent questions about opening your company is already posted in thread, G Dawson.
I would also recommend contacting our phone support for QuickBooks for Mac. They'll take a closer look at this to check why you're always routed to the login screen when restoring your backup file. Here's how to get our contact details:

I have done that numerous times and it keeps switching on me!
Hey there, MWgroup.
While the Community can provide answers and troubleshooting solutions to certain questions, there are things that only our phone support can do to resolve the problem.
Since you've already tried the troubleshooting above, I highly recommend giving them a call. They'll be able to do a screen-sharing session and see what's going on on your end when switching the QuickBooks display.

I have had enterprise since it came out. The Icon bar has always had an issue for me moving from the top to the side by itself. It happens to the other tons of people who work on my system. It probably doesn't get reported because it is just a nuance and simple to move back. It seems to happen when computer goes to sleep with QB open. Len Gerardo

I have had quickbooks forever. I have about 30 PCs. All have been replaced about every three years. I have a bunch of remote users. It has been happening for many years. I switched servers over the years. I started new databases. It isn't related to anything except a flaw in the program. It is the only constant in my system. Something triggers the Icon bar to move from the top to the left side when a computer goes to sleep.

I have had QB enterprise since it came out. Very often, seems like if desktop goes to sleep, the top Icon bar moves to left by itself. Each new version I expect it to be gone. Nope. It is only a nuisance as others said but probably has taken two or three minutes from my life as it happens at least twice a week.
this did not work on quickbooks 2020
This did not work in quickbooks 2020
I cant get the top icon bar at all
I spent 2 hours on hold on a online chat, and got hung up first time, then second rep could not or would not help me without a support contract.
This issue started after the last quickbooks update.
Quickbooks should fix this in a update ASAP.
However it seems that after we purchased the product, we are just a number to Intuit
