POS Inventory items

Can old unused inventory items be archived or hidden in reports? If so, can they also be restored in future if necessary?

Thanks so much!!

POS Inventory items

  1. There is no operation to "inactivate" items in QuickBooks POS.
  2. You may delete items. This will not remove them from previous documents or previous period reporting, but they will no longer be on the item list, or show up in filter selectors. You may not restore them in the future. You will lose the ability to look at the item, with its convenient history list.

POS Inventory items

Can you walk me through this?  We have a lot of old inventory items that we don’t use any more and going through the physical count has been tedious to say the least.  We would like to “clean it up”

Welcome to the Community. Let's go through the process of deleting inventory items in QuickBooks POS, @BobbyB.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Inventory menu, then select Item List.
  2. Locate the inventory item you want to delete.
  3. Click the I Want to... drop-down menu, then choose Delete
  4. Tap Delete again to confirm.

Repeat the same steps above if you have several items to remove from your item list.

POS Inventory items

When I delete items. the software says "deleting" but it just freezes. I have to restart POS to get it un-frozen. When restarted the items has not been deleted.

POS Inventory items

Thanks for becoming part of the Community, aaatanner. I appreciate your detailed information.

To verify my understanding, are you encountering a POS got stuck error message when it freezes?

Since your books are freezing when trying to delete items, I'd initially recommend creating a backup, then restoring to a different file backup.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to File, then Back Up Data.
  2. Specify a backup location. You can choose Default Location to backup to your default folder on the local drive or Specify Alternate Location to backup to a network or removable drive.
  3. Select Backup, then Finish.
  4. From your File drop-down list, click Company Operations.
  5. In the Start Company window, pick Restore from Backup, then hit Next.
  6. Enter a file name in your Company Name field.
  7. Specify a location you wish to restore from. You can choose Restore from default backups to restore from a default folder, or Browse to alternate backup file to restore from a network or removable drive.
  8. Select Next, then Close.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you'll want to try running your Verify Data utility, then compressing the Data Base.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great day!
