All of a sudden about 2 weeks ago, I am unable to print checks in Quickbooks 2019 desktop.  Is there a fix for this problem?

Did you reinstall QB on a new machine?

No.  It has been on the same machine for the last 4 years.  I failed to mention in my first post that my computer is a Windows PC running Windows 10, 64 bit.  I am wondering if a recent windows update has caused this.  I am able to print from another printer without any issues and the printer that Quickbooks is on is able to print pdfs and word documents without problems.

Hello, @elernor.

We can conduct a printing test from any program to determine if this concern lies with QuickBooks or with the printer itself. For this test, we'll use Notepad. You're free to print from any other program you have installed, as long as it's not QuickBooks. I'll also provide other solutions below to ensure you can print your checks again using QuickBooks Desktop.

  1. Open the Start menu and search for Notepad.
  2. Type some sample text in Notepad.
  3. Go to File, then select Print.
  4. Choose your printer and click Print.

If nothing prints, let's troubleshoot your printer setup:

  1. Power off the printer, restart your computer and then turn the printer back on.
  2. Ensure the printer paper is loaded correctly.
  3. Go to Start, select Control Panel, then double-click Printers and Faxes.
  4. If your printer shows Offline, right-click the printer and select Use Printer Online.
  5. Double-click the printer and if there are print jobs displayed in the queue, select Printer, then Cancel All Documents.
  6. Close the window.
  7. Right-click the printer, select Properties, and then select Print Test Page.

Next, ensure the printer is the right one:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Printer Setup.
  2. Select the form you want to print.
  3. Make sure the printer name matches the exact name of the printer you want to use. If not, you’ll need to correct the setup within your computer’s Printer Setup first.
  4. Select Help in this area for more help on these settings.

Additionally, if the recommended steps above don't work, consider downloading the QuickBooks Tool Hub to troubleshoot the unusual behavior of the program.

Moreover, you have the option to personalize the check before printing. For guidance on how to do this, please refer to the article: Use and customize form templates.

You can also run reports for the checks or any transactions that you've made. In case you need help with running those reports. Simply click the Reply button for us to guide you in every step of the way.

Did item 1 (notepad document) and printed fine.

Did item 2 (checked settings for printer and printed test page) and printed fine.

Ready to do item 3 (run tool hub).  What exactly should I be asking the tool hub to do?
