System Error

Using QB Accountant 2017, we have at least two users who get the following message when trying to start the program.  QuickBooks couldn't load a system component.  Restarting your computer might solve the problem.  Error type 80029c4a-Can't load dynamic link library DLL.  Now we have a total of 5 users, but only 2 out of the 5 get this message, and all users access the same system (server) and all access it the same way RDC.  I don't know if this makes a difference, but the two users who get this message are working from home, and connecting to this sever via VPN.  The others are at work, accessing the server straight through a RDC to the server without VPN.  I have read some things concerning that error message and it states that the AV could be blocking the DLL's from loading or to reinstall the application without interfering with the company file, is that true?

Normally, error 80029c4a can be resolve by updating QuickBooks Desktop to its latest release. Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Then, Close Company/Logoff.
  3. Go back to the File menu and choose Exit.
  4. Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon on your desktop, then select Run as administrator.
  5. While on the No Company Open screen, pick Update QuickBooks from the Help menu.
  6. In the Options tab, choose Mark All and Save.
  7. Mark the Reset Update box in the Update Now tab.
  8. Click the Get Updates button.
  9. Once the Update Complete appears, close and re-open the program.
  10. If you get the message to install update, select Yes. Restart your computer after the installation.

However, if the error still persist, I recommend checking your antivirus software.

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, SO26. I'd be glad to assist you further in fixing the error and be able to operate your business with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) again.

I appreciate your effort in attempting to follow the troubleshooting steps in this thread. While you can't open QuickBooks, we can update QBDT to the latest release without opening your app. Let's download the update directly from our website.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. Click on Standard setup.
  3. Fill in these options: Select Country, Select Product, and Select Version (Year).
  4. Initiate Search.
  5. Once you see your product's latest update, Download it.
  6. When done, open the file to install the update and follow the on-screen instructions.

Moreover, the update will install automatically even if the product is closed. Just keep your system/PC switched on. Once installed, you can now open your QuickBooks. If the issue persists, I recommend checking your antivirus settings before re-installing the product.

Additionally, QBDT lets you create custom templates for forms, allowing control over how they look and what information to include. Check out this resource to learn more: Use and customize form templates in QBDT.

Please comment below if you have further concerns about updating the product or other QuickBooks-related questions. I'm here to answer it for you. Have a great day!

No Ive restarted many times.  No avail.   I checked the virus protection; wasnt the problem.  Ive been holding to get help since 9 am and everyone keeps bouncing me over to someone else with long hold periods.  Pauline said she had my back and hung up on me.  Quickbooks has no technicians and I really wish I could buy an accounting program that people that you could actually talk to.  I am so so so so so disappointed in QB's and my blood pressure is g\reaching its limit trying to get help from your technicians.

Thanks for letting me know about your call experience with our QuickBooks Support team, @Glomar. I also appreciate you for following the steps shared by my colleague.

Since none of the above resolutions works for you, it means your QuickBooks company file has suffered massive corruption. In such a case, repairing it would be best.

First off, you back up your company file, then restart your computer. It will ensure there are no programs that may affect the repair. Then, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu, then select Control Panel. If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, search "Control Panel" in the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select Programs and Features then Uninstall a ProgramNote: If you don't see Programs and Features, select Programs instead. Then select Program and Features.
  3. Select QuickBooks from the list of Programs, then Uninstall/Change.
  4. Select Continue, or Next.
  5. Select Repair, then Next.

The repair should start right away, but it may take a while to finish. You can leave it running, and come back once it's done. Click done, then select Finish.

Once done, restart your computer to complete the repair, then update your QuickBooks to the latest release. This makes sure you have the most recent fixes and security updates.
