Export reports

I am using the QuickBooks online test drive to try to export reports into a CSV file. 

I do not see an option to export the Profit an Lost report into a CSV file.  I am following these steps:

Reports

  1. Open the report.
  2. Select the Excel drop-down at the top of the report.
  3. Select Create New Worksheet.
  4. On the Send Report to Excel window, select Create a comma separated values (.csv) file.
  5. Select Export.
  6. Assign a file name, then choose the location where you want to save the file.
  7. Locate, open, and edit the file as needed.

Step 2 - there is an option to export to Excel or PDF, not CSV.  There is also not an option to create a worksheet.  How can export a report into a CSV file/format?

Let me share insights about exporting reports. The reason why it isn't possible to export a QBO report using the CSV file/format is that there are punctuation marks in the report that when exported to a CSV file, the meaning may be different there which might cause changing the format and details.

As a workaround, you can proceed with exporting it as an Excel file and then convert it to a CSV file/format. To avoid changing the layout and details.

That did not help. Is there any other way to export Profit and Loss data into a CSV format?

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm here to share information about exporting reports from QuickBooks Online (QBO) into comma-separated values (CSV) files.

 

The steps you've shared above are only applicable to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This is the reason why you're unable to see this option.

 

Currently, the ability to export your Profit and Loss (P&L) report into a CSV file is unavailable in QBO. You can follow the workaround shared by my colleague Bryan_M above to export it as an Excel file first. Then, manually convert it to a CSV file format.

 

I can see how having this option would be helpful for you. We'd love to hear your input. I recommend leaving feedback to notify our engineers about the feature you need. This way, they can consider adding it in future updates. Here's how to submit feedback:

 

  1. In QBO, click the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

 

You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Can you recommend any third party apps that will export QBO reports into a CSV format?

While I cannot recommend an app, I'll share the steps where you can look for an application specific to your business needs in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

Follow these steps to proceed:

 

  1. Log into your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Select Apps from the sidebar menu. Then, tap Find apps.
  3. Enter a keyword or click the Browse category button.

 

You can also visit the QuickBooks App Center website for a third-party application that best suits your business needs. You can go to the Categories section to filter the results.

QuickBooks Online doesn’t always offer CSV exports for all reports, just Excel or PDF. If you need CSV, you might export to Excel first and then save as CSV, or try a tool like Skyvia that can extract and convert reports directly to CSV. You can see the example here.
