Importing From Excel

I upgraded to QB Desktop 2020 in Jan of this year.  Ever since then i have been unable to update my item list using excel. When i go to import i get a circular message telling me to turn on/off units of measure (which i don't use). When i change the units of measure and try and upload again it gives me the opposite error message.

I have spoken to QB but i don't seem to be getting very far. They say they are working on the issue but it has been 2 months now.

We have over 6,500 items that we sell and we have constant price changes.

At the moment i am having to update the prices one by one which takes a huge amount of time.

I have tried the IFF file option but i still have to change each price invdividually

Importing From Excel

Hi Caviarjim,

It's important that you'll be able to successfully update your item list when importing from excel.

You'll want to run the verify and rebuild tool to fix any data issues within your company file. Here's how:

To verify data

  1. Click File on the upper menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Choose Verify Data.

To rebuild data

  1. Click File on the upper menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Choose Rebuild Data.

For more information and detailed steps, here's an article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

In case you have other questions about inventory in QuickBooks Desktop, you can go over on these articles: Inventory And Projects.

Reply below if you have any other concerns. I'll make sure to help.

Importing From Excel

Hi Maria,

This has already been done both by myself and the QB technical team.

They have agreed that there is an issue with the QB 2020 version not allowing the import from Excel.

Unfortunately QB seem to be dragging their heals when it comes to fixing it.

I am more interested in other options for importing data

@Caviarjim

As another option, utilize the 3rd party importer tool to modify your data in bulk

Hope it helps.
