Question

Is there seriously no way to issue work orders in this program? I'm supposed to print work orders from my computer and then type all the info in AGAIN as an invoice?

I thought the estimate feature might fit my needs but I can't print the estimate without numbers. I need a work order with just customer info/service details for the technician to take and the customer to sign. Then I'll convert to an invoice once we know how long the service took and costs. I don't know the cost ahead of time. As far as I can tell, QBO expects me to type work orders on my computer (same thing I've been doing), then type it all in AGAIN to record the payment in QBO?! How backwards. I thought this program would save me time but without being able to issue work orders that convert to invoices/payments, it's worthless and will probably take MORE time than I currently spend on invoicing and bookkeeping. Any other competitor programs offer this essential feature?

Let me make it up to you, @woodwise-repair-.

As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to record work orders in QuickBooks Online. You can send and discuss this as a request via feedback directly from the Gear icon. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under PROFILE, select Feedback.
  3. Enter a few describing how you wanted to use a work order for your business needs.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Click Skip and send message.

I'm adding this reference so you're able to track the status of your request as well as the latest updates from our developer team: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.

It'll always be my pleasure to help if you've got other questions besides this one. Use the Reply button and leave your comment below so that I can assist you further.

Hi Jonpril

I researched this on the forums and it seems like customers have been asking for this feature for years. The fact that it's not been addressed by the developers shows me that QB doesn't plan to make this feature available. Right? Seems like my time would be better spent finding an alternative program that offers the ability to utilize work orders rather than getting too deeply involved with QB.
