Projects profitability reporting

Dear all,

As I work in a consulting company we are using the project tool that QB offers to their clients. I am already importing some data from Clockify using the Importer transaction pro.

I discovered the following issue when its comes to report the profitability of the projects that I am curently tracking.

In the section of "projects" I do not see any problem at all as all the project shows up its Human hour costs as part of their expenses. Nevertheless, when I click on the project profitability report, I do only see in the expenses category some costs that involves "Subcontractors / exchange gainr or loss".

Do anyone know why the HH costs do not appear in the project profitability report?

Thanks in advance!

Good day, @Simón Fernández.

Once you run the Project Profitability report, you should be able to see the Hourly cost under the Expenses section.

Sometimes local internet cache files stored in the system can cause unexpected behavior in the product. This can be the reason why you're unable to see the hourly cost when running the report.

To check, use a private a window and access the report from there. This will help us verify if the issue is cache-related and fix it. Simply press these shortcut keys to open this mode:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to see the Hourly cost, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If the same things happen, use another supported browser instead.

I've also included some articles that could help you streamline your reporting process in QuickBooks:

Reymondo

Thanks for the solution, although it does not work.

Maybe I am not categorizing correctly the cost hour of every employee as an expense? It is super strange bacuse as I mentioned below, in the project section dashboard I am able to see all the projects with their corresponding expenses.

That's possible, Simón Fernández. Let's double-check the cost hour category to know if that's the case.

I want to resolve this from happening to you so you can review your human-hour costs at the soonest moment.

Another possible reason why hourly costs didn't show up in the Project Profitability report are the following:

  • Hourly costs don't have an expense transaction or are not linked to the correct client.
  • The Labor costing method is filtered to Payroll Cost in the Project Profitability report.

To check all the possible causes, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Project menu on the left side.
  2. Select the appropriate project name and choose Transactions.
  3. Double-click the Time Charge and Expenses one at a time and review the details.
  4. Modify them if needed.
  5. Re-choose the Project Profitability report and click Customize
  6. Ensure that you choose Hourly costs in the Labor costing method
  7. Filter all the needed data and click the Run report tab.
  8. Review the transactions seamlessly.

Furthermore, check out these articles below to learn more about using projects to track your labor costs and profitability in QuickBooks:
