Buy nowWhy doe QB online keep reactivating GL accounts I have made in active? I service business only. I don’t want cost of goods. It lets me make it inactive. Then the next time I log in…. There it again. Along with other GL accounts I don’t want. And is there not a way to stop the awful pop ups? Everyone I try to send an invoice I’m being upsold invoice financing. Like I’m at a used car dealership. I want my accounting to be boring and it’s so annoying working in QB online looking for any alternatives ??? Or some help
Hi there, @CPG-Clark. Are any of your General Ledger (GL) accounts connected to bank feeds or rules?
If you have a bank rule set to auto-add transactions to a specific GL account, QuickBooks Online (QBO) will automatically reactivate that account whenever new transactions match the criteria. Even if you manually make the account inactive, the next bank feed download will trigger the rule and reactivate the account. To prevent this, review your bank rules; if you find one linked to that account, you can either edit or delete it.
I also recommend checking the Audit Log. This will show if another user with access is manually reactivating the accounts.
Regarding the pop-ups, there’s no way to turn off the product ads. These notifications are designed to keep you updated on new features that could benefit every business operation. Since you want to get rid of them, you can just hit the X or the "No, thanks" button whenever they pop up.

I understand getting the pop-ups one or two times but it’s really annoying to have to click the Xbox every single time I send an invoice and QuickBooks is trying to upsell me on invoice financing and instant payments. It’s like I pay for the service already. I know how to search additional services and add them when I want them. Again, I understand one or two suggestions on additional services, but it’s every single time and they are constant and it’s really frustrating to just try to knock out my accounting with the constant pop-ups. On your chart of accounts answer. It’s not related to bank fees. I have told my QuickBooks online 10 times I don’t sell any goods. I’m a service business stop creating cost of good sold every time I deactivate the account. It comes right back. There’s some accounts QuickBooks online won’t let me deactivate so I understand that I think it’s a terrible feature that I can’t turn off the pop-ups and I can’t customize my chart of accounts without QuickBooks adding account accounts, I don’t want.
Hello, Clark. I understand how frustrating it is to constantly see the same pop-ups while you're trying to work, especially when you're focused on finishing your invoicing. As my colleague mentioned, they are intended to provide you with updates and features that may be beneficial for your business.
Regarding the inactivation of accounts, when you set up your company in QuickBooks Online (QBO), the system automatically creates specific default accounts in your chart of accounts based on the business entity you selected. Also, special accounts may be generated when you activate certain features or take specific actions within your QuickBooks settings.
In the chart of accounts, it’s important to understand that some of these default accounts cannot be changed.
