Does Quickbooks allow you to edit the layout of a balance sheet report? I see where it allows you to customize certain items in a balance sheet but not changing names or allowing accounts to be set up under certain names. I know this sounds strange but we do a balance sheet now for our International office and we were able to change or edit the balance sheet layout for them. I was just wondering if Quickbooks allows you to do this.

Thanks for getting back on this thread, @Thend2019.
I’m here to share some insight regarding this matter.
For both QuickBooks Online and Desktop, the ability to group accounts in any reports is currently unavailable. I suggest submitting feedback about this option to our developers for the inclusion in future product updates.
Simply go to the Gear icon and select Feedback for QBO or click this link: QuickBooks Online Feature Requests.
To submit feedback in QuickBooks Desktop, follow the steps below:
1. Go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
2. Select Product Suggestion.
3. On the QuickBooks Feedback window, fill out onscreen instructions.
4. Click Send Feedback.

Please know that your voice matters and that enhancements and improvements to QuickBooks are largely the results of feedback provided by users like you. Rest assured, I’m going to submit feedback on my end in regards to layout editing and putting accounts in groups on reports.
As mentioned by my colleague, you can edit the layout and group the reports using Excel as a workaround. Check out these links for your reference:
• Export reports to Excel (QBO).
• Export report from QuickBooks Desktop to Microsoft Excel.
That should do it. I’d love to hear from you. Let me know if you need anything else, I’ll be more than happy to help. Thanks for dropping by and take care!
I appreciate the steps you've done to customize the report, Thend2019.
Currently, QuickBooks for both Online and Desktop doesn't have an option that allows you to layout the balance sheet report.
I recommend submitting your feedback about editing the layout of the report. In QuickBooks Online, click the Gear icon and choose Feedback. Also for QuickBooks Desktop, go to the Help menu. Choose Send Feedback Online and then select Product Suggestion.
In the meantime, you'll want to export it to Excel and layout the report from there.
Please let me know if you have further questions. I'd be glad to help you!
Ok, if you can't change the layout, are you able to create groups within either the Balance Sheet or Income Statement. Example: Can you do this with Quickbooks?
Assets
Cash and Cash Equivalents
Cash and Marketable Securities (This line would allow you to group all cash accounts together)
Current Assets
1-Inventory (This line would allow you to group all the inventory account together)
2-Prepaid Expenses (Grouping all the prepaids together)
3-A/R (Grouping all the Accts. Rec. together)
I could go on further to show you what I mean. I would appreciate any assistance. Thank you!
I am unsure if my reply came through, I am new at this. So I apologize if this is a repeat.
So, I understand you cannot change the layout in Quickbooks. Can you put accounts in Groups in the balance sheet or Income Statement. Here is an Example of what I am talking about:
Assets
Cash & Cash Equivalents
Cash and Marketable Securities (This group would contain all the cash and investment accts)
Total Cash & Cash Equivalents
Current Assets
1-Inventory (This group would contain all the inventory accounts)
2-Prepaid Expenses (This group would contain all the prepaid Expenses)
3-Accounts Receivable (This group would contain all AR accounts)
Total Current Assets
Would I still have to Export to Excel to make this layout from Quickbooks?

Thank you for this thread. I am working to transfer a company file I have been maintaining from QB 2018 Premier on Windows to QB 2019 for MAC. For example, the Premier Windows version allows for account groupings to be expanded and contracted at will by the carrot on the left. The MAC version doesn't allow this (as far as I can tell). (Yes I have opened the detail of the BS totals, while in the program, I would like to expand but, that is not what would be most useful and helpful for discussion and analysis in a printed copy.) I am on the Windows Premier end so I can't post from the MAC desktop version.
Hi there, @MIMAC.
I appreciate you joining us here in the Community today. I'm here to share some insights about collapsing and expanding an account for Balance Sheet in QuickBooks Online.
Currently, the ability to collapse and expand an account on the Balance Sheet report is currently unavailable in QuickBooks for Mac. This is only applicable to the Windows version. To learn more about customizing a company and financial reports in QuickBooks, you can check out this article: Customize company and financial reports.
I can see how this option would be beneficial to you and your business. I'll send this feedback on your behalf straight to our developers. This way they'll be able to determine features that needs to be added in future updates. Doing this will also help them understand how we can improve your QuickBooks experience.
Please know that the Community is always here to help if you have any concerns with QuickBooks. Wishing you and your business continued success.
@qbo Need the ability to customize reports within QBO. For instance, right now one cannot show Accounts Receivable with Allowance for Doubtful Accounts and a subtotal together on the balance sheet. These short of layout requests are common from clients and show be part of the functionality of QBO.
Hi there, @evanddavidson.
Thanks for joining in this conversation. At this time, there isn't an option to run and customize a report based on your preference.
For now, you can only run the Invoices and Received Payments report. Then, customize it to show the paid and unpaid invoices. Here's how:
Just in case you need it, you can check out this article that tackles customizing reports in QBO: How to customize reports.
Feel free to message again should you have more concerns about anything else. We're always delighted to assist.
