Export report to Excel, features cannot be saved in macro-free workbooks

Hello,

When I export a report such as the Balance Sheet to Excel in Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2017, I save the file as an XLSX. However, Excel warns me:

"The following features cannot be saved in macro-free workbooks:

-Excel 4.0 function stored in defined names"

When I open Name Manager in Excel, I see that Quickbooks has various names defined.

My question: if I save the workbook as an XLSX, what functionality am I going to miss out on? The numbers themselves won't be affected, correct?

Export report to Excel, features cannot be saved in macro-free workbooks

Let me help you out, Titan321214.

You encounter that error message when saving an Excel workbook. To save a file with these features, click No, then select a macro-type in the file list.

Although, if you select XLSX, you won't miss anything since we support that file type and the numbers will not be affected.

Export report to Excel, features cannot be saved in macro-free workbooks

As a follow-up to this conversation: If I save to .xlsm format, Quickbooks will not update the spreadsheet as it does not support .xlsm file format. What is my solution to save macros and be allowed to update from QuickBooks

Export report to Excel, features cannot be saved in macro-free workbooks

I'm here to ensure you're able to save and update your report in Excel, VaTT.

Since we have a specific format when saving reports in QuickBooks Desktop,  you can use a file converter to do this. I'd suggest visiting our Intuit Marketplace to look for a third-party converter.

After that, you can export the report. Then, you can get the latest version of the data from QuickBooks while you're in Excel. I'll show you how.

  1. In Microsoft Excel, go to the QuickBooks tab. Excel adds this automatically the first time you export the report.
  2. Select Update Report to get the latest version of the report from QuickBooks.

For more details in saving your report, please this article: Export Reports to Excel from QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, you can customize any report that you generate in QuickBooks. This helps you add the specific details you'd like to see in the data before exporting it to Excel.

Feel free to comment down below if you have any other report-related concerns or questions. I'm always glad to help in any way I can.
