OK, I hope this will be possible in the US and hope they have a realistic price for a small business
@Homespun& all: There doesn't appear to be a reasonably priced option for us...it appears that Intuit just pulled the carpet out from under a lot of organizations. I'm hoping that this thread at least brings the issue to their attention and maybe they'll reconsider their absurd pricing structure.
But probably not...they're too busy rolling around in their money.
I totally agree
Did you find a alternative? It sounds like it would need a data conversion script!
During my last call with Quickbooks support in July 2004, I was informed the option to use QB Desktop with a non subscription license is no longer allowed. I’m paraphrasing here but their instructions were, buy an online subscription at a much higher cost, scrap the desktop version, comply with the new terms of use, or go eff yourself.
So I went and effed myself. After 30 years of using Quickbooks our long and useful relationship came to an end.
So far, the best solution I have is to revive my old, very slow computer and just use that for QuickBooks although that computer is in really bad shape another solution would be to buy a new iMac computer for $1300. Keep my old one without ever updating the software. Within two years that would pay for itself with absolutely ridiculous subscription cost at QuickBooks.
If you can find somebody that does data conversion please let me know. Thanks.
Isn’t there more to your story?
How were you able to save all your old data and what are you using now?
Was that typo when you wrote July 2004? Did you mean 2024?
I searched the web and found several desktop alternatives and conversion scripts. I don't know if it's appropriate to post it here.
Apparently there is no such thing as using Quickbooks desktop without an up to date license. I refused to subscribe to QB online under the new price structure. When my previous subscription expired, QB became unusable…boot up and cycling through functions became obviously buggy. QB tech support/sales said there is no option to continue using QB desktop version.
It is absolutely appropriate to post it here. Alternative options to QB is what this thread is all about. The mods will not prevent your information from being disseminated here.
With the research that I did a couple of weeks ago, it looks like the alternatives to QuickBooks also have jacked up their prices.
To those conversion scripts work without getting help from the new provider? What kind of pricing are you seeing?
@Homespun @Tom B Hines @dugbro
Are you using PC or Mac?
Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment
Which QB Desktop year version do you run now?
PC
No add-ons
QB Desktop Pro
Payroll: Yes
I’m just now downloading the paid version of Wave at $16 mo. No idea at this point if it will replace Quickbooks in my shop. Wave is pretty basic compared to QB but I’m a geezer slowly winding things down rather than ramping up…scalability isn’t so important to me now. I started doing my own business bookkeeping back in 1979 so leaving behind a few of QB’s capabilities is not a big deal for me.
Wave has double-entry accounting, bank account integration, unlimited invoicing, and credit card processing by link at my web page but no physical CC pmt as with Square.
Apparently wave does not provide for inventory tracking/management. Ten years ago that would have been a deal killer for me.
I wouldn't recommend Wave. There is another better option. You can use another free accounting solution for businesses with annual revenue <50K USD. You will need to use a paid plan to have the inventory feature.
then for payroll, you can purchase an annual add-on $190 + $30 (for every employee)
I’m working my way down the list of alternatives. Wave is just my current option up for testing.
Btw, it’s ok to post the name of the software you suggested. QB mods don’t mind at all. We’re all here because QB did us dirty. We want QB to come to their senses and provide us with products and prices commensurate with decades of our loyalty to QB. I’ve been a QB customer for around 30 years. And what did I get in return? I’ll tell you what I got, a big fat dung sandwich. I want my Desktop version back and I want it for a reasonable price.
Soooooo, what’s the name of that alternative you suggested? I don’t recognize the pricing graphic you posted. Can’t imagine anything slipped by my dragnet but it apparently did.
I'm not sure On Beta would dare mention the brand here. We know it but we also dare not say it. LOL

This is the best post I have seen so far
Basically, us long time loyal customers who weren't using QB for our small (or tiny, like mine) businesses are being totally disregarded/disrespected
Intuit should really do something to at least help us find a new option where we can save our old data, whether it is through Intuit or another entity
You are using QB Desktop Mac, correct? Do you need to run any add-ons or multi user?
I don’t know what an add-on is, and I am the only user
If you don't need to run any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment), you should contact Fiat Lux. They can share an option to run QB on your old or new Mac.
When I spoke to that QuickBooks people last week asking them if Fiat Lux is legitimate, they said that I can only use QuickBooks through Intuit
Have you seen their profile in the community? Level 15 is the highest rank you can reach here. If they are not legitimate, they would probably have been banned a long time ago. Their location is irrelevant as long as they can help me and my clients.
Then why did QB tell me they might not be trustworthy?
The Fiat people told me they could make the QB work without the annual fee by doing some sort of interesting programming ideas
@On Beta Not that this undermines your point or anything, but I'm not sure there is a 'banning threshold' here.
I've basically been cyberbullying the staff here for a full year now, and I still haven't been banned.
Which QB Desktop year version do you have now? 2016 or 2019?
