I just set up Quickbooks online today. when I click" reports" there is no balance sheet or profit and loss. in fact, the reports area is missing alot of reports. I'm not sure what's going on, but it looks like a defect in the program. when I search for "profit" in the report search bar, nothing shows up.
Sounds like you bought [removed by moderator] Simple Start. Each version has different available reports and Essentials will have what you need
Not at all. I am supposed to have Quickbooks Plus, which is the version indicated in the subscription area. And I have other elements of plus. but virtually no reports. see attached, the full list of business reports.
The report headings are Standard, Custom and management. It looks like it should have other headings.
Hi there, @vonsterlynn,
It's great to hear from you again. I can provide some clarification about the missing reports.
Based on your screenshot, your account has Statement of Activity and Statement of Financial Position reports, which are non-profit reports that correspond to Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports, respectively. This would explain why you're not seeing or able to pull up any reports when searching for "profit" in the report search bar. While these reports are named differently, the information and customization options will largely be the same. The following article contains additional information about the Statement of Activities report: Accounting Term: What Is a Statement of Activities?.
When looking at your screenshot, the Reports screen of my non-profit QuickBooks Online account matches what you're seeing. The following video is a visual guide to show the available reports in the company file:
Additionally, to ensure that you're able to access all of your reports, I'm including an article that goes over reporting in QuickBooks Online: Available Reports in QuickBooks Online.
I'd be glad to continue assisting if you should have any additional questions. Wishing you and your organization continued success.
Our Non profit uses quickbooks and has been printing "Statement of Activities" and "Statement of Financial Positions" however we just switch master users & now neither report shows as an option.
Hi there, @SDR19,
I'm here to ensure the other user can access your Statement of Activities and Statement of Financial Positions.
Just to confirm, did you assign a limited access to the other user? If so, this might be the reason he/she is unable to view these reports.
To help fix this, let's check the user access and edit the user settings. Here's how:
After that, you'll have to ask the user to sign out from your QBO account. Then, he/she will be able to see the two reports.
For more information, here's a great article you can refer to: How to Add, Delete, or Change A User's Access.
That's it, @SDR19. I'm here anytime you have other concerns. Have a good day.
I am the Master User and I do not have the option to run a "Statement of Activity" report or a "Statement of Financial Position" report.
I found this article https://quickbooks.intuit.com/ca/resources/nonprofit-management/customize-quickbooks-your-needs/
it reads that:
This action renames several of the basic menu items to better suit the bookkeeping and accounting functions for nonprofit organizations. For example, the menu item “customer” is renamed “donor;” the menu item “invoice” is renamed “pledge;” and the menu item “profit and loss” is replaced with “statement of activity.”
However even though we are classified as a non-profit (as listed above) our report options still show a "profit and Loss report with "total income" when it show show a "statement of activity" report with total revenue. Why is this & how can it be corrected?
I selected the correct tax form (990) and under industry type "Nonprofit" doesn't exist. I can't get QBO to update anything of mine to the preferred non-profit vernacular. Need to find the "Statement of Activities." Thanks.
Thank you for joining the Community, Asking4aFRND.
You did great in updating the tax form and industry type of your non-profit company.
Once you change the QuickBooks Online company into a non-profit organization, the title of the reports will no longer update. If you want to run Statement of Activity, you'll have to search for Profit and Loss since these reports are just the same.
Here's how:

Hi,
NEED HELP!
I don't know what I did.
But P&L disappeared from my QBO Reports.
Attached screen shot.
Best,
Kevin from LA
Hello, Kevinchoi1.
I appreciate the screenshot you've provided. Let's get this sorted out.
Are you referring to the Profit and Loss report under the Favorites?
If so, you can find the report under the Business Overview section and mark it as Favorites by clicking the Star symbol. Let me walk you through the process.
I recommend customizing the report to get the specific details you need. You can also memorize it to save its current customization settings. It serves as your record and helps you quickly access it for future use.
Feel free to leave a reply below if you need more help with the profit and loss or anything about QuickBooks reports. I'm always here to help. Have a good one.
The thing is that the recent update ERASED ALL MY CUSTOM REPORTS that I created, as volunteer with very limited time for our non-profit, over the last 1 year. I am not talking about basic or favorite of basic reports either.
This the second 2 in last year that I've used QB that they have done a MAJOR UPDATE WITHOUT WARNING that caused major issues with function and ability to use efficiently!! We may have to look at alternatives for accounting if QB will, without warning will get rid of lots of work, unless they provide a way to retrieve ALL my lost work. In other words, how do I get back all custom reports?
It isn't the kind of experience that we want you to come across, jvilla07.
Let's try using an incognito window and check to see if you still have the created custom reports. You can use these keyboard shortcut keys to open one:
If it works, you can go back to a regular browser and clear its cache. A piled cache can also be the reason for some unexpected issues on the opened pages. You can also try using a different browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.
I've also added this reference as your guide if you want to share the custom report: Share custom reports.
Let me know if there's anything that I can help with. Keep safe!
Hi @vonsterlynn,
Rishika here from Better Reports!
I think our app Better Reports can show this easily. I have attached a screenshot below that shows the sample built-in Profit & Loss report.
Also, there are other built-in reports available like “Balance sheet”, “Profit and Loss by Class”, “Profit & Loss by Account”, etc. We can create custom reports as well, based on your business requirements.
It is also possible to filter the report for a specific period, and schedule the reports to be sent automatically to your email or Google drive at a regular cadence.
What do you think?
Hi there,
I am hoping you can help me out. I have been using QB online non-profit version for about 2 years and have always had the Balance Sheet and P&L Statement option for reports. I went to do a report today and they are no longer options on my screen. I read your reply about how they are listed as Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activity. Those reports are there but I don't like them as well as what I previously had. Can you tell me "why" the BS and P&L disappeared and is there a way to get them back to my QB online?
I've been using the online version for many years and ALL of my custom reports that I use daily are all gone. It's blank. WHY???
