Looks like there has been a report overhaul. How can I see P&L YOY comparison including % of income? Or even a multi-year comparison? Using QB online.

Hello there, @lolojuice.

I'm here to guide you in running Profit & Loss report that compares the % of income for multiple years.

QuickBooks' financial reports provide you information about your company. You can customize reports in a variety of ways. You can filter them to display only certain years, or arrange the layout so that the appropriate data appears where it should. Here's how to tailor reports so that they highlight the information that's most important to you.

I'll show you how:

  1. Go to Business overview, then select Reports, or go to Reports.
  2. Find and open the Profit & Loss report.
  3. Under Report period, choose Custom from the dropdown. Then select the date range.
  4. In the Display columns by dropdown, select Years.
  5. From the Compare another period dropdown, tick the checkbox of the details you want to add, like the % of income.
  6. Click Run Report.

For future reference, you can check this article to guide you with report customization: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you need additional assistance running reports in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. have a great day.

Thank you!! As mentioned, however, it appears Reports have changed? The "Compare another period dropdown" no longer exists.

Hello, lolojuice.

Thank you for getting back to us. I've checked and replicated it on my end and was able to modify the Compare another period dropdown.

Sometimes too much cache build-up in a browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product. To clear this out, open your account in a incognito/private window. This mode doesn't record any activity on your local device. Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to utilize the dropdown, then let's clear the cache in your web browser or try using a different supported browser. It could be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that you use.

For additional resource, check out this link. They provide on how to modify information about the Filter, General, Rows/Columns, and Header/Footer sections: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online

Get back to me if there's anything you need assistance with. I'm here to help you as much as I can. Wishing you a good one!

While I apprecieate the "clear your cookies/cache" solution, that's not the issue. Functionality has changed for QB Online? The below no longer exists.

" 5. From the Compare another period dropdown, tick the checkbox of the details you want to add, like the % of income."

I appreciate you for joining in on this thread, lolojuice.

Let me chime in and share my insights about the Compared another period drop-down. Some reports allow you to compare two time periods side by side. This makes it simple to see how things have changed over time.

If you don't see a drop-down, then it isn't an option for that report. Please refer to this article for more details: Compare time periods in reports.

Also, you may want to check your subscription as this option is only available above the simple start plan. With that, I'll suggest upgrading your subscription to take advantage of this feature. Here's how:

  1.  Select Settings.
  2.  Click Account and settings.
  3.  Choose the Billing & Subscription menu.
  4.  In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade your plan.
  5. Choose a plan and click Choose plan.
  6.  Hit Get started.

You can visit this article to learn how to download your data from QuickBooks Online: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

Post again here in the Community for further QuickBooks-related concerns. Have a nice day!

Please read my words: the "comparison" dropdown/options NO LONGER EXIST on any reports. Yes, I've cleared cookies/cache, yes, I've restarted my browser, yes, I've tried an incognito tab, yes, I spent 15 years in tech.  Can someone please provide an actual answer regarding report functionality changes?

Hi, @lolojuice. Thank you for getting back to the thread today. I'm here to share additional details while running your Profit and Loss report.

I appreciate you for performing some troubleshooting steps to get the information you need. The Compare another period dropdown menu is available for the Profit and Loss Comparison Report. You can pull it up by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks as an admin to avoid restrictions.
  2. Click on Reports at the left pane.
  3. Type in Profit and Loss Comparison on the search field, then open the report.
  4. Make the necessary customization from there. The Compare another period field is made ready on the header section.

If the option is still unavailable on your end, can you attach a screenshot of the report you're working on? This way, I can check and look into this further.

On the other hand, I'm adding these materials for more tips while running your reports in our system:

I hope we’ll stay in touch and get to work together again in the future. If you have follow-up questions, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to provide additional assistance. Keep safe!

What language do I need to speak to make this point? Report functionality USED to look like your screenshot. It now looks like the attached. Please stop wasting my time if you do not have an answer. I have a business to run and have been trying to get an actual answer to this issue for months. No one knows.

We'd really want to have this sorted out so you can compare your data, lolojuice.

I've read the previous responses and I can see that all possible troubleshooting steps to resolve reporting issues were already shared with you.

In this case, I would recommend reaching out to our phone and chat support teams. They can take a closer look at your Profit and Loss report to determine why the compare another period is not showing up.

Here's how to reach out to them:

  1. Go to the Help menu in the upper-right hand corner to open the QB Assistant window.
  2. Type in "talk to a human", then press Enter.
  3. Click Contact Support Team, then type in "reports issue" and press Enter once again.
  4. Select No, I still need help, then choose Contact Support Team.
  5. Look for the Chat option and click on it.

Let me also share these articles for more details:

Please don't hesitate to share updates and let us know if you're able to see the option to compare data from previous period. You can also visit us again in the Community if you need anything else.

The easy answer for this should have been compare is not available in Essentials. But in the Upgrade window it does not tell you this. I believe it is an necessary tool and this is bad form for Intuit to make you spend $30 more a month to get this functionality, mind you that is if it's even available in Essentials.
