I'm not in the UK, and don't use Quickbooks for VAT or tax returns. Can I continue using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020, which is the version I'm currently using, or upgrade to a newer Desktop version, instead of having to move to Quickbooks Online?

Intuit's UK team told us yesterday that the notice only applies to subscription licenses. We have to wait until June 1 to prove their claims. We have asked our clients to start creating backup files from next week as a precautionary measure.

Yes, you can continue using your QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 as long as your license is standalone.
And if you want to migrate to QuickBooks Online, you still need to update your QBDT to the latest version. The latest version also has a free trial that you can upgrade.
Consider migrating to QuickBooks Online (QBO) as a solution. Your account balance will stay the same, but there may be differences in features between the two programs. You can try out QBO for free with our 30-day trial to see if it's right for you. Before doing so, be sure to create a backup of your file to avoid any data loss.
