I got my Uncle in the US to pay for QuickBooks today, to be used for a business in Nigeria which would be operating in Dollar Currency. I tried setting up the Sales Tax but I don't get an option to use Nigeria tax agency. It keeps showing US related Tax agency cities.

Let me help you set up your sales tax for your country, @Sazzy

QuickBooks Online (QBO) for US is set up for US tax agencies. If you're going to perform business in Nigeria, I suggest subscribing to QBO for this region.

Here's how to create a new one:

  1. You can go to this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/
  2. Click Africa below Choose your country and choose Nigeria
  3. Follow the prompts to finish creating the account.

Read this article for more information: Create or add another company.

Then, turn on the multicurrency feature. This one is only available in either QBO Essentials or QBO Plus. This will let you track your foreign currency transactions. To know more about how to turn this on and add USD - United States Dollar to your currencies, read this article: Turn on and use multicurrency

From here, you can now go to the Taxes page to set up your sales tax agency. You'll be the one to add the Tax name, Description, Tax agency name, Business ID No.Start of current tax period, Filing frequency, Reporting method, and Sales rate from the Taxes tab.

Check these articles for more information about your sales tax agency. Also, read the following article on how to apply Sales Tax to Transactions and Sales Forms

Thanks for the response. But the problem is he has wrongly chosen the US as the country in the process of making payment. He stays in California. But the biz is supposed to be a Nigerian business. And now I can't find any city relating to Africa when I am trying to set up the company's Nigerian address

@Sazzy

Make sure you can find the name of your country (i.e Nigeria) on the top of the screen prior to opening a QB Global version account.
