Question

Horrible new payroll tax policy

If anyone would like to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about the new Quickbooks Online payroll tax policy, please do it here:  https://www.bbb.org/file-a-complaint

This new policy means that Intuit will REQUIRE all QBO users to authorize Intuit to withdraw, manage, and pay payroll taxes on behalf of your small business.  This also means that Intuit will take our money the day we process payroll and hold it (in my case, for up to six weeks!) until our payroll taxes are due.  This is a terrible thing for a small business's cash flow, not to mention Intuit will be earning interest on OUR money for weeks before they turn those funds over to the tax agencies.  If anyone at Intuit cares about their small business customers, this policy should immediately be reversed.  Let ME decide how/when to pay my own payroll taxes, please.

The worst part is that they might not even send your money.  I have seen multiple threads saying that QB held their money, and never paid the taxes.  THe QB Customer have to turn around and figure out how to pay that money, on top of the fees that  came with QB not paying the taxes when they should have.

One thread even says that they asked QB about it, and they all said it had been paid, or that they knew nothing, only to have that money miraculously show up back in their bank account... & MONTHS later.

DON"T TRUST INTUIT/QB WITH YOUR MONEY!!

I agree!!!  I hate this, boarders on my freedom and being illegal.  I am currently researching a new place to do my business.  I reached out to my congress woman, Sarah McBride (DE-AL) U.S. House of Representatives who share the following:

Thank you for reaching out and for providing additional information about your concerns with QuickBooks and Intuit.

Because QuickBooks/Intuit is a private company, there are limits to our office’s ability to intervene directly in its business practices or require the company to change how its payroll and tax services operate. I did review the issue you raised, and Intuit’s current materials confirm that it has made changes to its automated payroll tax system, including removing the option to turn off automated taxes for certain QuickBooks payroll products.

Given your concerns about these changes and the amount of control customers retain over their tax filings and payments, one avenue available to you is to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which accepts reports concerning potentially unfair or deceptive business practices.

You can submit a complaint through the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you decide to do so, please send me the complaint/reference number you receive. Our office can keep the complaint on file and, where appropriate, follow up with the FTC regarding its status.

Unfortunately, our ability to intervene directly with Intuit is limited because it is a private company, but we are happy to help you navigate the federal avenues that are available.

I agree, this new mandate is NOT helpful in the slightest, it has now become a hinderance and disruption to the business. It should be OPTIONAL, but with all updates, changes, and new features QuickBooks rolls out, they automatically implement them assuing it is something that every customer wants without regard to how it may affect the customer utilizing their services. Our business funds are our business funds, it is NOT money for QuickBooks to make interest off of. This is NOT acceptable.

I actually like the way QB is currently handling this. . I do not see it any problems.   I think it makes the accounting side easier because all transactions clears the same day as the payroll.  It certainly makes balancing the checking accounts much easier . In the past i have had FUTA  not clearing to January of the following year.   I hope QB does not change it back...but if they i hope they leave the current situation as an option.

This is the way almost all payroll services (Gusto, etc.) operate so this shouldn’t be surprising.
