invoices and prices

I am using QB 2021 Desktop.  I am trying to figure out how to create an invoice with a job total for the customer to see, but I want to be able to put a break down on my side so my accountant can see materials vs. labor.

  IE:  job is $500 That is all I want Customer to see

On my end I want to see

labor-$350

materials $150

This is Desktop Version, not online.

    Welcome to Community, @veteransplumbing.

     

    I'll share the steps on how you can create an invoice with a job total. You can combine inventory parts to build and track finished goods. When you build, QuickBooks automatically updates your stock of components. We call this your bill of materials. It lets you track the inventory parts you assemble and then sell.

     

    Let me guide you how:

     

    1. Go to Lists, then choose Item List.
    2. Scroll down and select the Item drop-down, then New.
    3. Enter "Job" as your Item Name/Number.
    4. Hover towards the Bill of Materials section. Then, enter your labor and materials under the Item column.
    5. Type in other assembly details.
    6. Click OK.

     

    After that, create an invoice using the item's name "job" on your invoice. See the images below.

     

     

     

     

     

    However, for products that you buy or sell together but don’t track as a single item, you can create a group item instead. For example, a gift basket of fruit, cheese, or wine.

    I am using pro plus 21 desktop

    I do not see the bill of materials after i create the "Job"

    I want to enter labor and materials in line items, but have the customer only see the Total price on their end.

    I don't know how else to explain this.  

    customer only sees

    estimated job   $500

    I see breakdown-

    Materials  $400

    labor $100

    You can see the bill of materials in the inventory assembly. This inventory item is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Premier, Enterprise, or Accountant. You can find the details in this article: Track the products you manufacture.

     

    Here's a sample screenshot for a visual reference:

     

     

    While the option is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop Pro, you'll want to follow the other option provided by my colleague ShiellaGraceA on how to create a group item.

     

    With regard to the information you don't want your customers to see, make sure to customize the data layout of your template.

     

    Here's how:

     

    1. Open a sales form, like an Invoice or Sales Receipt.
    2. Click the Formatting tab and then select Customize Data Layout. 
    3. Go to the Columns tab and un-check the columns you don't want to include. 
    4. Hit OK once done.
