Question

Create a workload report that compares current year months to last year month

I am wanting to create a workload report that compares Jan 2021 to last Jan 2020 and to continue to do so. Right now the only way i can see to do it is to do a previous year comparison by month - export it to excel and than make the adjustments in excel. Is there a way it can be created in a QuickBooks report?

I can help you with running your report comparing the current year months to last year.

 

To get started, may I know the specific report you've opened? This way, I can help you with the desired customization and filters of your report. Usually, you can add the Previous Year or Previous Period columns to get the information need, then show your columns by month. I'm running the Profit & Loss YTD Comparison as an example.

 

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop, then select Reports from the top menu bar.
  2. Click on Company & Financial, then Profit & Loss YTD Comparison.
  3. Go to the Customize Report tab, then check the box on Previous Year under Display.
  4. Hit OK, then show the columns by Month.
  5. Tap Refresh.

 

From there, you can see that the data are arranged per month (January 2021 to January 2020 and so on).

Yes I know how to do that for most reports. I am not familiar with the workload report and it doesn't give me those same options to create the kind of report I am trying to create.  See screen shot below.

So what I am trying to create is a sales report that shows the # of items sold , the amount of sales for each item and totals for sub categories and then compare it to last year during the same month. Jan. 2021 compared to Jan 2020 and next month I would want to compare Feb 2021 to Feb 2020 and so on.
