Payments appearing twice

This is my first year using quickbooks invoicing and it has been a complete mess. When a client pays utilizing the invoicing tool, the payment hits both my "services" bucket as well as my A/R bucket. When I run profit and loss then my income comes in very inflated. How can I fix? using QB invoicing has caused so many issues but I hate to admit it is very much a time saver.

Hi there. I'll provide you with some information to manage those payments and make sure you get to track your financial transactions accurately.

 

In QuickBooks Online, if you create and send a customer an invoice and they pay it, you'll need to manually record that payment to connect it to the invoice to balance your accounts and to mark the invoice as paid.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Click on + New and choose Receive payment.
  2. Enter all the necessary details.
  3. In the Outstanding Transactions section, select the invoice.
  4. On the Deposit to section, choose the account you want to put the payment into, and if you're unsure what account to select, you can ask for help from your accountant.
  5. Then, select Save and Close.

Moreover, if you're using online banking, you'll need to match the downloaded transaction with the one you already entered in QuickBooks Online. My issue currently is that my payments are showing up in both my services account (this is where I want it to go) and my accounts receivable. This is leading to my total being inflated.
