Generate ROE for employee

How do I generate an ROE for an employee that is not terminated? They are on reduced hours. Is it possible to generate the payroll file to submit to Service Canada?

Generate ROE for employee

Good afternoon, 1000islandstradi.

Thanks for turning to the QuickBooks Community for support! I'd be happy to provide some information in regards to ROE.

QuickBooks Online Payroll let's you create a record of Employment for your staff as necessary. However, you'll need to follow the appropriate steps to create the ROE. Go to the employee profile and open the "Employment details" section.  Enter the "Status", that provides the best fit.  Next, you'll select the appropriate code to indicate the reason for the status change.  Hit Save. You'll see a message asking if you would like to create the record of Employment now, or later. Once you've created the ROE, you can edit the employee status to "Active" and enter the appropriate hire date. I also suggest reviewing the Pay schedule to make sure it's correct before you save the changes.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out.

Generate ROE for employee

Hi Amanda

Thanks for your reply.

I can see that changing the employee status is the only way to generate the ROE - however, there are no options are that are even remotely related to the actual situation. Choosing any of the provided options will misrepresent the actual employee situation, and I believe could impact the employee in various other ways. I confirmed this with Service Canada - they advised that it's not correct to do it that way. (i.e. to select "terminated" to generate the ROE and then "rehire them").

There should be a way within QBO to generate an ROE without changing the employee status - an ROE can be requested / required for many reasons which don't pertain to the options provided for in QBO.

Generate ROE for employee

Welcome back, 1000islandstradi.

I can see how being able to create an ROE without having to terminate the employee would be beneficial for you. Since this isn't an option that is available in QuickBooks, I recommend leaving feedback by heading to the "Gear" icon and selecting the "Feedback" option. These comments are viewed and considered by our developers as they create new features and updates for QuickBooks.

Im here if you have any other question.
