I have two companies that are being amalgamated into the same legal entity and would like to know how to join the books from two QB online accounts into one.

I can see the benefit of being able to combine two accounts into one, however, this feature isn't available yet. You'll have to manually export some of the data from on account to the other. Here's an article with more info on how to:
Export Data out of QuickBooks Online. I also encourage you to check out this article here that shows you how to import some of your data into your desired account.
You're also more than welcome to use third-party apps that can help you migrate your data. You can search for third-party apps on our website using this link here. I recommend choosing an app that suits your business needs based on the app description and reviews.
