Changing Column Width in Reports on screen

Welcome to Community!  QuickBooks Desktop enables you to expand the columns on your reports, so you can view all of the elements.  I would be glad to help!

When you open the desired report, you can change the column width by hovering your mouse between the column headings and drag the scale width icon to the left or right.  Please feel free to submit a suggestion, if you would like to see additional options come available in future updates.

Thanks Trish, but it only seems to work for some things.

It works on "Chart of Accounts"

It does not work on any Reports, even with "Customize Report"...as it would seem to me that a "custom" report should allow the choice of columns AND their width.

I'm running Desktop Pro 2017 and I was able to adjust column width on reports before last update.

QUESTION: Can you send me a link to a previous version or the number to call?

Thanks for trying that for your columns. For further assistance with errors editing column widths, I recommend reaching out to the support team outside of the Community. They'll be able to assist in helping you get your reports displayed correctly to print. You can reach them using the methods outlined in the QuickBooks Desktop software support policies.

This always worked before. QB must have changed something in 2024 because it no longer works

Hi Thor5. Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I'll be happy to assist you going forward. To make sure we're both on the same page, could you elaborate more about the goal you're looking to accomplish in QuickBooks?

It is just trying to widen the columns on the reports in QB desktop, very similar to widening a column in an Excel file.  The columns are too narrow to identify the invoice number.  In the past widening the column was easy, just like in Excel.

I see what you're saying. Since the function you've described isn't available, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers by clicking on the Help menu and looking for Send Feedback Online. In the meantime, feel free to ask other questions, I'm here to assist. 

Why in the world would anyone eliminate this function?  The only reason I can think of is to “encourage” the upgrade of QB.  But I will then say “but I paid for this and QB has sabotaged my Quickbooks”.  It is an essential daily function that suddenly no longer exists.  I need a full explanation, and I need it now, rather than later.
