Cannot setup forwarding to receipts@quickbooks.com using Gmail / Gsuite.

The issue is I am trying to forward [email address removed] to [email address removed].  Gsuite / Google requires me to receive an activation code at this address to activate the forwarding.  Because those emails are being sent to [email address removed] I never receive them and thus cannot setup the forward.

In the past using XERO I have been able to accomplish this because they provide unique email addresses per client.

I am trying to avoid using a 3rd party tool like Receipt Bank to achieve this... hopefully there is a way to setup this forward.

Thanks in advance!

Hello paul125,

With QuickBooks Online, we aim to provide you with the features you need to manage your books, and I want to make sure you're able to use the built-in Receipts feature instead of having to go with a third-party option. That way, you can cut down on costs to your business and keep things simple with how they flow in QuickBooks Online. I'll help you get this sorted out.

I've spoken with other customers who have successfully set up email forwarding with the Receipts feature, so it may simply be something with your emails' unique setups that are causing the hiccup here. The activation code could be causing the delay here. I encourage you to speak with the support team for Gmail and GSuite to ensure that you have whatever codes you may need and to get details on how to complete the forwarding setup if necessary.

Next, I recommend getting in touch with QuickBooks Online support outside of Community. The Community is coded to automatically redact email addresses and other such data you share in the body of your question to help protect your personal information. The security of your details is of the utmost importance to us and this is one of the ways we keep that information safe.

By calling an agent or chatting with someone in a private message, you'll be able to share all the details you need without censoring and with the confidence that they're secure. Here's how to reach us.

Hi Paul, did you find a solution to this?

@LauraAB - I think the issue with the original author, and with myself is that G Suite requires an email code be entered when adding an email for "auto forwarding" within Gmail.  I want to add rules to auto forward email receipts to [email address removed] from my email address that is registered with QBO receipts.

Receipt Bank handles this by allowing that document to filter into that user's account because it is a unique email address.  This is a critical issue with QBO receipts.

Hello AccountixCA,

Thanks for sharing your insight about what might be happening with QuickBooks Online's Receipt forwarding when using Gmail and Gsuite. The requirement for that code could be part of what's causing the hang up with the process.

Since you've mentioned that Receipt Bank handles this with using a unique email address, the new receipt forwarding option for QuickBooks Online may work for this situation. Recently, we updated the process for receipt forwarding to allow users to create a custom email as a part of this process. Take a look at it here: Email receipts and bills to QuickBooks Online

Should that still not do the trick, I recommend sharing your feedback about how this feature works, which you can do right from the Receipts page in the Banking menu by clicking Give feedback. This helps us as we continue to develop the feature and QuickBooks as a whole to meet the needs of business owners and bookkeepers.

I hope that helps.

Thank you so much.  I haven't seen that feature yet and just configured my email.  The only problem is that the confirmation/code email is sent from Google, so it will not come from a registered address.   QBO will need to either allow certain email addresses globally or allow emails from non-users (more ideal).  We have many clients who would like an assistant to manage the receipt forwarding.   I'll share that feedback in the method you recommended as well.

I see what you're saying about the intricacies of the process. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. :)

Same issue, still looking for a solution.

This isn't a hard fix for QuickBooks to implement, why aren't they on it?

Hi jphiggs. Your feedback is important and it's vital your voice is heard. Since every issue is different, I'd like to make sure we're both on the same page. Could you elaborate more on what you're experiencing on your end?

Hi @JamesM ....I know you asked @jphiggs , but I'll jump in as well.   For your GSuite users, in order to have messages auto-forwarded to a different email (@Qbodocs.com address), the GSuite user must do a "verification" that you are authorized to send mail to that address.

So, a verification email goes out to that forwarding email (@Qbodocs.com address) with a verification code.  Since that email address isn't a QBO user, it doesn't ever go to the receipts area for us to see and therefore we can't verify that forwarding email.

As you can imagine, many businesses have many emailed receipts and creating forwarding rules in your inbox saves a huge amount of time over manually forwarding everything to [email address removed].

Intuit developers should be able to allow those messages into the receipts area so that we can verify the email address.  Hubdoc and Receipt Bank all have it figured out.

Any update on a resolution for Gmail/G Suite users to verify the email for setting up Auto Forwarding?

I tried to send a new verification email and it still doesn't show in the Receipts queue. Thanks

Hello joepaultx,

Thanks for checking in on this thread about forwarding emails from Gmail/G Suite to the address used to email receipt images in QuickBooks Online. I see this thread had been around for a while, so it makes sense to see if there's been an update.

There haven't yet been any updates regarding this to the Receipts feature. Our product development team is still accepting feedback about it, though, so feel free to share your thoughts with that team if you haven't already. The Receipts page, when viewing it via browser, even has a handy Give feedback button right there for you to use. Don't hesitate to use that feature to let us know about the updates you'd like to see to Receipts.

Take care.

This really needs to be prioritized. There are enough users here who are requesting this functionality that it would be helpful. How can we obtain the verification code that gmail is sending to QBO. This doesn't seem like too difficult of a thing to accomplish.

I had the same issue and it is SUPER frustrating as with most quickbooks functionality.  I found a bit of a work around that I figured I would share in case it might help others.  I have a zapier account so we setup a simple automation when it found an email that was labeled as a receipt. It would then send a new email with all the same info (essentially a forward but technically not).  Lastly, I just setup some filters in gmail to tag our high volume receipts and one offs I will just do manually.  Not the perfect solution but is good enough for now until quickbooks addresses this in a few years.

Still a problem in Q3 2024.

Pretty pathetic on QBO's part. If the goal is great customer service, then how about making the #1 email system in the world usable with QBO, it's been 4 years since this problem was first identified.
