Missing bank feed transactions

Hi.

For the last two months or so my bank feed is missing random transactions, several each month. They are not all in batches but dotted throughout the month here and there.

What might be causing this, please?

Hello AB74,

Welcome to the Community page, is there any error codes or messages showing up at all on your account? What bank is it and what account type is it as well?

No error messages.

It's a Sterling business current account.

Missing bank feed transactions

Hi @AB74,

I appreciate you for adding more information about your bank. I can share some details about how the Banking feature works in QuickBooks.

When you link a bank account in QuickBooks, your transactions download automatically. The data that is imported into our system will depend on the information your bank shares with us.

If there are missing transactions, I recommend checking your bank's website. It may be possible that they aren't showing yet in your account.

If it's already reflected on the website, I suggest refreshing the account. You can use the Update button to refresh the connection with your bank.

Here's how:

  1. On the left navigation bar, click Banking.
  2. Select the account.
  3. Press Update

I've also attached an article you can use to import a CSV file manually from your bank into QuickBooks: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Fill me in if you have additional questions about bank feeds or downloading bank data. I'm always here to help. Take care always.

Thank you for your reply, but if you read my original post you will see that the missing transactions are dotted here and there throughout the month, randomly, so nothing to do with whether or not the transactions are showing on my bank statement or not.

I have tried all update/refresh type things, even though that obviously wouldn't help as it was nothing to do with not being updated as the transactions were randomly missed throughout the month.

There are no known issues with Stirling that I can discover, so what might be the issue please?

Missing bank feed transactions

Hello there, @AB74.

I'd like to provide additional information.

If you haven't tried opening your company in a private window or incognito window, we can try it. This helps us check if this is caused by a browser issue.

You can use any of these keyboard shortcuts to access one:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari

If it works, go back to the regular browser and clear its cache. However, you can use another supported browser if you get the same result.

If the same thing happens, please give us a short call. We'll need to conduct further investigation to figure out the main reason why there are missing bank transactions. Please utilize the Help icon to get in touch with our Support Team since there are no known issues with your bank.

Here are some articles that you can use for additional reference:

Comment below if you have other concerns, AB74. We'll be around. Take care always.

Hi AB74, could you try on both to see if you get the same outcome or not thanks.

Missing bank feed transactions

Hi

What outcome am I looking for? The missing transactions to appear or for the problem to not repeat itself in future?

Our IT man asked do the bank transactions only feed through upon login in or do they feed through eg overnight or when update is pressed?

Thanks

Let's get this sorted, @AB74.

If you can't find transactions you expect to see, you can manually download the latest ones by using the Update button in bank feeds. If you still experience the same thing even after updating the connection of your bank, I highly recommend reaching out to our Technical support team. They use specific tools to look into your account and determine the root cause of the missing transactions.

For additional troubleshooting steps in finding missing transactions, feel free to visit this article: What to do if you can’t find downloaded transactions in QuickBooks Online.

In the meantime, you may want to manually upload those missing transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO) using a CSV file.

Also, performing the reconciliation process will help you review your accounts to ensure that your real-life bank and QBO balances are in sync. Once finished, you can pull up a reconciliation report that you can save to serve as a reference to avoid reconciliation issues in the future.

Stay in touch if you have any other banking concerns in QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Have a good one.

As already discussed, if you read the whole thread, updating has not magically made month old missing transactions appear.

So am I to go straight to technical support now and forget about the browser nonsense?

Thanks for your prompt reply, @AB74. Let me share with you some ideas about banking transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QuickBooks Online is dependent on what the customer’s bank shares. We can make sure that the bank transaction is cleared. You might also check your bank statement to double check if the transaction exists, or reach out to your bank provider.

Once done, you can manually update it in QuickBooks Online.

You can also check your account settings to see if there's an option you need to confirm that caused the banking to stop updating.

Let me know if you need further assistance with banking transactions. Stay safe!

This in no way answers my question. I don't think you have read any of the thread at all.

Of course I have checked my sodding bank statement.

As discussed previously, a manual update does not bring in transactions missed from a month prior.

I'll answer my own question and go straight to technical support.

Hi Mate.
Did you get this sorted. My connection with hsbc wouldn’t re authorise, I had to delete the accounts then re connect, which worked. Except I’m now missing a few transactions, in QuickBooks self employed there was an option to type in the transactions manually. But that doesn’t exist in QuickBooks online.

I haven't bothered to phone them yet. I'm going to wait to see if the Jan reconciliation flags up the same error before I put myself through that pain!

You can add transactions manually though, on QB Online.

I am with starling and just doing my bank rec and finding the same thing...this is a real pain!!

You have saved me a load of time and I will just add the transactions!

I have just noticed the same - some transactions from my Starling account have not been imported into QBO.  The Update button has not solved the problem.  This is very worrying!

Hello crossbat!

Thanks for joining this thread. Let me assist you in importing the Starling Bank transactions.

I checked our record and found an investigation about missing transactions from Starling Bank. Currently, our team is still checking and fixing this error.

I suggest you reach out to our Support Team, if you haven't yet, so they can add your company info to the case. That way, you'll receive updates about this.

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and enter Talk to a human (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter "INV-68402".
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us or Get help from a human.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

For now, you'll want to manually upload the transactions into QuickBooks Online. All you need is a file from Starling Bank that contains your transactions.

I also added this link if you need help in reviewing your downloaded transactions: Categorise and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Keep your posts coming if you have other concerns. Take care always!

My client phoned Sterling who told them to disconnect then reconnect the feed. Too early to say for sure, but initial results seem favourable.

Hold fire. This did not work.

Strangely, it is always just payments to the same supplier that do not feed through.

My client is going to phone both bank and QB.

If I get an update, I'll let you know.

Hi ACII,

Thanks for reaching out here.  QuickBooks Online provides the option to upload transactions manually in cases such as this.  Whether you're unable to automatically update or have missing transactions for a previous period.  I'll be happy to provide more information so you can complete your banking goals!

When you manually upload your transactions in csv. format, you'll select the desired date range on your bank's website.  When you login to your bank and review the transaction history, you can select a specific date range.  Once you've reviewed the items in the list, you'll download it in csv. format and save it to your computer.  It's important to make note of the last transaction in QuickBooks to prevent duplicate entries.  Continue by following these steps;

1. From Settings ⚙ in the top right of your dashboard, select Chart of Accounts

2. Locate the account in your list and select Account History to the far right

3. Write down the Date of the last transaction

Next, you'll login to your bank's website and download your transactions in csv format. Select the date range based on the last transaction in QuickBooks Online. Open the file and format it prior to uploading it into your bank feed. I recommend the 4-column format to keep the debits and credits separate.  Save the file when finished.

Here's how to upload the transactions:

1. Login to QuickBooks Online, open Transactions from the left menu, select the Banking tab

2. Click the blue tile for the account you're uploading the transactions into

3. Select the ▼ dropdown arrow beside Link account and then Upload from file

4. Hit Browse and select the csv. file you downloaded from your bank, then click Next

5. From the Account ▼ dropdown, choose your account and hit Next

6. Follow the onscreen steps to match the columns on the file with the correct fields in QuickBooks and hit Next

7. Select the transactions to import and continue through the prompts

8. Choose Yes

9. Hit Let's go

Here's how to remove duplicate entries;

1. From the Review tab, checkmark the box beside all duplicated entries

2. Select Exclude from the tab that appears

Note: You can permanently delete the transactions from the Excluded tab by selecting all items and then hit Delete. This process is irreversible and any transactions deleted in error will need to be recreated manually.

If you'd like assistance with this process, please don't hesitate to contact us.  It would be our pleasure to work with you directly and ensure you're back to business as soon as possible.

Feel free to let us know if this has been solved.  Your success is important and we're always pleased to help!

For readers don't bother with QBO recommendations. if you are missing sporadic transactions from bank feeds, just create an entry (expense, deposit, JE) to fix. this is easiest solution. QBO does not seem to understand the issue or they would suggest the same thing.

Same issue here, can't trust the dodgy bank connection feature at all. It randomly misses off income lines and my figures are all wrong, how can they sell a service so flaky! I need my accounts penny perfect.

Sorry to reactivate an older feed, but I have spotted the same issue with Starling accounts and QuickBooks. If someone from QuickBooks is listening, this issue really needs to be sorted. It is ridiculous I have to go through bank statements every VAT quarter to identify missing transactions.
