GATEWAY ID for payroll. When submitting payroll system asks for GATEWAY ID & PASSWORD. I have a gateway ID but not accepting. Is there a separate PAYE GATEWAY?

Hello there, alexwhistler2.

Let me share information about the Gateway ID for payroll. This way, you'll be able to submit your payroll tax information to HMRC.

You'll have to notify the HMRC of your payroll liabilities on or before you pay your employees. There's only one PAYE Gateway, so it’s recommended to set up for PAYE RTI before running payroll.

You'll have to activate your Gateway credentials (User ID and password) 28 days after you received them to the Government Gateway. Unable to do so will make your credential invalid and you need to get a new one.

Here's how to enter your HMRC credentials:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Company Settings, then choose Payroll.
  3. Click the Edit icon next to Online filing with HMRC.
  4. Make sure that the slider next to Save Gateway credentials is turned on.
  5. Enter the Gateway ID and Gateway Password
  6. Make sure that the slider next to Submit FPS automatically with Payroll (or Automatically file in Settings) is turned on.
  7. Click Save.

Since you're unable to enter your gateway id and password, I'd recommend contacting the HMRC. They can check your credentials and assist you in verifying them in the Government Gateway.

Moreover, your employer PAYE reference is issued by HMRC only when you have registered online. To enter your HMRC reference in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll, kindly refer to this article's HMRC reference section for the detailed steps: Turn on RTI reporting to HMRC in QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll.

To learn more about how to enroll and activate PAYE online, you can check out this article for the complete details: PAYE Online for employers.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.
