I'm currently using Quickbooks Pro 2016 (desktop version, non-subscription based) and it seems I'll be somehow force to move to the online version at some point. The desktop version is still working but who knows which Windows-update will break it - there are already issues with it's built-in Internet Explorer usage but that is not really affecting what I need to do with it.
In a previous round of research on moving to the online version, I found a mention of some desktop software that can be installed that will be able to read Quickbooks desktop files for historical purposes. Unfortunately I did not download it at that time and now I cannot find the link. Does anyone know whether this exists and where I could download it?
You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 for good to access your archive files. You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for details.
Welcome to the QuickBooks Community forum, Albert. We're excited to have you here. I’ll provide you with information about the available migration tools, but first, I need to clarify a few details.
Before we continue, could you specify the source from where you've found the desktop software reader you mentioned? Are you referring to a third-party application? Any additional information you can share will be much appreciated.
For now, we only partnered with Movemybooks to convert and transfer your company file to QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support hub. If you're referring to third-party software, while we cannot endorse a specific product, I recommend checking the suggestions from other users that could help you choose the right solution.
Moreover, please note that you'll have view-only access to your old company data for 12 months. During this time, you may want to export your data to another software program or use a cloud-based storage solution for remote access. By following these steps, you can effectively manage your historical data and ensure you have the resources necessary for your ongoing business operations.
I've included a few articles to learn how your books moved from QBDT to QBO and how to make the most of QBO's features:
I'm still here to assist you with any additional data migration needs for your company file to the online version. Feel free to reach out whenever you need help.
Hi Erika,
Regarding
"could you specify the source from where you've found the desktop software reader you mentioned?"
I wish I made more than a mental note when I saw this, so perhaps I do not remember correctly. But I'm quite sure it I saw it on the Intuit-site when investigating how to move from QuickBooks Pro 2016 to QuickBooks Online.
Regards,
Albert
