Question

Quickbooks Desktop replacement

Hi

Does anyone know what Intuit mean when they say they are discontinuing Desktop, are they removing the whole package or just stopping support?

In previous years I continued to use versions of Quickbooks desktop without support and had no problems in keeping it up to date with help from our accountant when regulations changed.

If the whole package is disappearing does anyone know of a straight replacement for desktop as the online version is rubbish by comparison and does not have the functionality I need.

Maybe they will sell it to a third party?

Hello Peter3605,

Welcome to the Community page,

So to answer your first question Quickbooks desktop is being discontinued as in the whole package is being removed and will not be supported at all, you will not be able to use it come end of January 2023.

So you will not be able to use Quickbooks desktop at all as there will be no access to it come end of January 2023. So you will need to export your data out of it and save it to your pc and move to either Quickbooks online or a different software account.

There will be no third party selling it either im afraid

Why couldn't users continue to use the software after January 2023.  The program and database are held locally.  Granted, there will be no support.  Unless there is a time bomb written into the software?

Thanks for getting back to us, martinschultz. I know how difficult it is when you can't migrate all the data. I'm here to clear things out for you.

The standalone subscription for QuickBooks Desktop had already ended on April 30, 2021. If your client is using this, there will be no loss of access to the program. This means they can still view the data.

If they're unsure about the subscription, I'd recommend checking the Desktop invoices. Standalone receive a separate invoice each month for support only.

Once you're ready to move the desktop data to QuickBooks Online, I'd suggest checking out these resources for the detailed process:

I'm only a few clicks away if you need assistance with your other QuickBooks tasks, martinschultz. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.

Hello Community Users, We just wanted to pop in and update this thread that the date for the desktop product ending was extended and the desktop product will now discontinue on the 30 June 2023. Support will continue to be given until that date. You will not be able to use the desktop subscriptions after that date. We will be contacting users as well regarding options for viewing desktop data after that date in the very near future. Though we need to stress it will be read onlyAny questions just ask, we'd be happy to help.

@Peter3605

If you don't need to comply with MTD regulation and you are still using QBD 2020 or older versions, consider to purchase a one time license for QBD UK 2019 or 2020. Otherwise, you can migrate your data to QBD 2021 US version with the one time license.
