Hello,
I was about to submit my accounts to my accountant for end of year submission and Quickbooks has stopped working - an error message says it has been disabled. It couldn't have happened at a worse time!
My last license number was given to me by Intuit on 16/11/2016 and exactly four years later to the day, without any warning, my software is disabled, leaving me very, very stressed. A flag comes up in the program to say phone Intuit for the new code.
I have been in contact with Intuit and while they have been friendly and helpful, apparently they cannot generate a new validation code to get my software running again. (It's an old version, QB Pro 2006, but I have it working on an old PC running windows XP and not connected to the internet and it suits me fine). While I do of course understand that it's a sunset version and not supported, I am unhappy that the program is disabled without warning and that a new code is not forthcoming, leaving me well and truly stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get up and running again please? Thanks.
Hello @RogerCh,
Let me help share information about how you can access your company data so you can get back to business in no time.
To start with, you're on the right track in contacting our live support so one of our specialists can provide you with the license code.
On the other hand, you can consider downloading and installing one of our latest and supported versions of our QuickBooks Pro. From here, you can convert your old company data from 2006 you can give it to your accountant.
If not, you may need to search for third-party software online to convert your old company data back to a working company file for your accountant.

Once Support is declined to generate any activation code, you don't have any option but purchasing a new supporting license (i.e 2018-2021). If your company is not located in the UK, consider migrating to QBD US version with a one time license instead. As far as I know, company doesn't offer any one time license for UK version.
Hello @JonpriL and thanks for your relpy.
I would rather get my QB Pro6 working than have to learn a new system right now, when I'm very busy. I'm literally an hour off completing the years accounts when this happened.
Live support are saying that they are not able to give me a license, which seems fundamentally wrong to me when I have paid for it.
I do understand that support cannot be given once the software goes into sunset, but I should be left with a working version of the software that I purchased. Is there any way of working around this please? Thanks
Thanks @Fiat Lux - ASIA
Unfortunately I'm in the UK and so US version won't help me. Thanks for the thought!
You may utilize the trial license of QBD 2020
Unfortunately you may not be able to upgrade in one jump directly from QBD 2006. You should ask Support to convert your file or purchase a 3rd party conversion service.
Do you have your old registration code? Just so you know, the code you received previously will work.
Thanks @FILEREPAIR yes I have every single regisitration code that Intuit have given me, together with a file note and the date, but no it doesn't work.
Also interesting is that my software expired exactly 4 years to the day after the last code was put in, which makes this seem forced.
It looks like they have sunset that version. Can you try installing it on a different computer (one on which you never installed QB before) to see if it will work?
I installed it again in a different location and could open it up, but because the QB Pro06 had been updated, it would not open my backed up files.
I get that they have sunset the version and support ends, but my QB program should still work with an unlimited license.
You will need to find a previous backup in the same version of QB that is installed.
