I'm here to ensure you're able to remove the importing/banking error you've encountered in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @jimczeb. This way, you can successfully import your IIF file and keep your account's deposit transactions updated.
Web Connect issues (i.e., importing transactions from the bank) can occur for several reasons. Sometimes, files from the bank are incomplete or incorrect format, and changes on their end would be the reason too.
To fix this error, I'd first recommend creating a backup of your company file. Then, make sure you're using a supported version of QBDT. Next, download your Web Connect (.qbo) file directly from your bank, not from inside QuickBooks. Then, open your company file and follow these importing steps below:
In case you still see the error, please continue troubleshooting starting with Step 2: Check the file from your bank in this article: Fix Web Connect import errors. It also includes an advanced troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue.
Also, I'd recommend reconciling your accounts every month. This way, you can monitor your deposits/income and expenses and detect errors accordingly. For the step-by-step guide, you can refer to this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.
Please keep me posted on how it goes in the comments below. If you have other banking or importing concerns with QBDT, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @jimczeb.
Which QBD year version do you have?
Thanks for the response. Please let me give a clearer description of my issue.
1. I am not attempting to import from a bank. I am trying to do a simple test import.
2. I have created a test IIF file with one deposit transaction.
3. in quickbooks i have created a test bank and some test accounts for the deposit.
4. The bank is named Jims Bank
5. the deposit transaction is as follows
TRNS<tab>22<tab>DEPOSIT<tab>11/01/2021<tab>Jims Bank<tab><tab>50
SPL<tab>23<tab>DEPOSIT<tab>11/01/2021<tab>Jims Test Sub1<tab>-50
ENDTRANS
Note that Jims Test Sub1 is a sub-account if that makes any difference.
6.The error i am getting is
;The Account does not exist in Quickbooks [11242]
7. If we enter a deposit into Quickbooks into Jims Bank manually it works fine.
Hope this clears up my question.

Hello Jimczeb, thanks for coming back to us here on this thread, IIF files aren't really supported despite them being intuit files at the bottom of this link it says. We would advise that you dont use that function as it has not been supported for a while now, if you have a look at the link on for more information if your still stuck i would advise you ring the support line on 0808 168 9535.
Prepare your Deposit data with the following template

1 | Checking | 01/10/2020 | 10/1/2020 Daily Deposit | Johnny Jones | Construction Income | Monthly | 302 | Check | 15 | |||
1 | Checking | 01/10/2020 | 10/1/2020 Daily Deposit | Charlie Mac | Construction Income | Monthly | 418 | Check | 15 |
