QuickBooks desktop

I recently switched from online to desktop. I set up on desktop and was up ans going and was told I could use a migration tool to import my customers, invoices, chart of accounts. When I went to use the tool it created a whole new company account. Is there a way to import all that into my current desktop company using the migration tool. I now have a few accounts going thinking I missed a step linking the online data to my QuickBooks desktop. I need a lot of help please!

I got the help you need, Sarah AW.

Let me shed some light on the conversion process from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Some information from QBO may not be converted to QBDT which includes payroll transactions. You'll want to create historical payroll data and historical tax payments into the software.

You may check out this article for the list of information that can and cannot be converted in QBDT: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

The first step is to prepare a file for export:

  1. Login to your client's QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Highlight the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt.  The URL should say https://cxx.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdtXX  in the URL is a number, (don't edit the number) and select Enter on your keyboard.
  3. You'll see an Export Overview Window.  Read the Export Overview. You can print it if you'd like. Select Get Started.

Then, log in to QuickBooks Desktop and follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon and select Run as administrator.
  2. Go to File and select Close Company. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.
  3. Select Download tool to download and install the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
  4. Once you download and install QuickBooks Desktop and the migration tool, select Continue.
  5. Enter your reason why you're exporting your client's data.
  6. Click Continue.

For the next step, refer to this article and proceed to Step 3: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.
