Hello there, @dproberto.

The Transmitter Control Code (TCC) is an identifier that the IRS uses to distinguish different electronic filing companies. It's necessary when you need to file for a correction.

Getting a TCC depends on how you file your 1099 forms. Based on your description of the issue, it seems that you've used our 1099 e-service through QuickBooks Online (QBO) in completing this task. With this, you can use Intuit's TCC in filing for a correction. To do this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can securely pull up your account and provide you the code.

In case you want to talk to one of our representatives, you need to request a callback. You'll first have to check out our support hours to ensure we can assist you on time. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose Contact Us
  3. Enter your specific concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  4. Click Let's talk
  5. Select Get a callback.
  6. Enter your contact details.
  7. Click Confirm my call

I've attached a screenshot below for your reference.

This is a really good response. I just had one quick question that is kind of related to this. If I filed through intuit, I don't need to independently setup a TCC right? Instead Intuit uses its TCC to submit the 1099s. Is that a correct reading of the situation?

You're correct, g-ram.

Once you filed through Intuit, QuickBooks will set it up for you and uses its TCC to submit the form. The TCC is given to the company or Registered Agent who originally files the return, in this case QuickBooks/Intuit.

Hello,

Because I could not find any place/information beside this article. The TurboTax customer service could not find anything near and 1st time hanged up, 2nd time sent me following email(after 30 mins on the phone).

Here's what they told me:

"Hi, I found out There is no Transmitter Control Code when you e-file a tax return with TurboTax. TurboTax is not a paid tax preparer. Your tax return is self-prepared. I found a link for you from quick books that might help you."

Did you have a success to find a TCC? I need to correct the TIN from 2020 1099-NEC.

Thank you.

I appreciate your effort in reaching out in the Community, @sadullaevd.

As stated by my peer above, getting a Transmitter Control Code (TCC) depends on how you file your 1099 forms.

Since the TurboTax support mentioned that your tax return is self-prepared, I suggest working with IRS. You’ll need to write a letter containing your Tax1099 reference # and Orig # from your filing to request your TCC number. See this link to learn more: Tax1099 guide.

To make corrections to your 1099 forms after you e-filed them, you can use this article as a reference: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, I self prepared and e-filed from online QEF. After reading your reply, I understand i'll have to apply for TCC on my own. However, where would I  locate "Tax1099 reference # and Orig #" you referred? I e-filed on Intuit QEF website.

Hi, I also need the TCC, but once I do that, I need to be able to correct the 1099s I've sent out. When I do that, I believe I need to check the box that indicates "correction." However, I've been directed by the IRS Circular to write IRS a letter and send it via snail mail to request help with this correction.

To your knowledge, is there a way to check that "corrected" box on the 1099 form when filing it electronically? Not sure that this is how the IRS will advise me to correct the 1099, but I'm assuming that re-issuing the 1099 with the correct info and checking that box is part of what I have to do.

Let me help you get the Transmitter Control Code (TCC) to correct an error on your 1099s, rozpark.

As mentioned by my colleagues, getting a Transmitter Control Code (TCC) depends on how you file your 1099 forms. If you're trying to file the form outside QuickBooks with Intuit's TCC, you'll obtain your own TCC from the IRS. However, if you file it electronically using QuickBooks, just use Intuit's TCC. To get the code, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They can securely pull up your account and provide the code privately. You'll first have to check out our support hours to ensure we can assist you on time. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose Contact Us.
  3. Enter your specific concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  4. Click Let's talk.
  5. Select Get a callback.
  6. Enter your contact details.
  7. Press Confirm my call.

On the other hand, the only way to check that "corrected" box on the 1099 form when filing it electronically is to work directly with the IRS to make a manual amendment. Just use these IRS instructions to do so. Once corrected, you'll need to provide the corrected return to the recipient or contractor yourself.
