Are you referring to QuickBooks desktop?
If so, save the file locally and then import it from the File | Utilities menu instead of double-clicking the *.QBO file to open it.

Thank you. It worked perfectly.
Thank you.
Hello, @George NY.
I’m happy to hear that the issue was resolved and we was able to help.
Feel free to come back to the Community if you have any questions. I hope you have a good night.
I was having the same problem, since I have several versions on my computer.
Instead of opening the file when you download it, save it.
Go to the banking menu, go to Bank Feeds and click on "Import Web Connect File".
Choose the file you downloaded from the bank and it will upload to your bank feed.
Thanks and welcome aboard to the Community, @qualacct.
When installing multiple QuickBooks Desktop versions on your computer, please make sure these programs are compatible with each other. I recommend visiting the Install multiple QuickBooks Desktop versions on one computer article for more insights about the things you should consider.
For importing web connect files, please also note there's only one process available at this time. It would be by opening the QBO file within the program to download bank transactions.
I can see how this ability is beneficial to your business. Right now, opening the downloaded file directly from your computer is currently unavailable.
For the time being, I suggest visiting our blog and sign up to our Newsletter. This way, you’ll receive email updates about changes in the product.

I need to know how to stop Quickbooks from opening every time I download a QBO file. I normally download several at one time for various clients. I would like to be able to save them to my computer without the added hassle of having to wait on QB to open only so I can tell it to let me save the file.
Hey there, @USMCSGT323.
Thanks for joining the thread. If QuickBooks opens automatically when you download the QBO file from your bank, that means that your browser's preferences are set to open files automatically after download. I've outlined the steps for our recommended browser of choice, Chrome below, but you should be able to do a quick search online if you're using another browser.
That's it! Now your QBO file won't open automatically. If you'd like to learn more about Web Connect files, I recommend checking out: Import web connect (.qbo) files

I have the same problem because I have multiple versions of QBs on my computer.
Your best solution is to download and save the QBO file to your computer and upload it.
In the banking drop down select "Bank Feeds" then "Import Web Connect File".
Having the same issue when import the .QBO file it opens up the 2020 QB and not the 2020 version.
It definitely is a .QBO file but it gives the following error message
Let’s sort this out, @TAX15.
Web Connect issues can occur for several reasons. I have some instructions here to help fix import issues in QuickBooks Desktop.
Before you import your transactions into the program, create a backup copy of your company file. Make sure you're using a supported version of QBDT and updated Internet Explorer.
Once done, check the file you’ve downloaded from your bank and make sure it is a .qbo file. If yes, review some notifications from your bank. Your bank will notify you if they have changes on how they support QuickBooks Desktop. Here’s how:
You can also create a test file to see if you can import your transactions into a new company file. Let me show you how:
If you could import, there may be a settings issue. Go back to your original company file and reset them. You can read this reference for detailed information to resolve Web Connect import errors.
Don't hold back to drop a comment below if you have additional concerns with importing process. It's my pleasure to be of great help. Take care!
Madelyn
thank you for the response. I have a case # after spending 1 hour with tech. support earlier. We tried quite a few ways. As a. Beta tester never ran into problem.
will you be able to email me next week to arrange a glance meeting?
I have the same problem, since I use many different versions.
You need to download the file.
Then upload it by following these steps:
From in the QBs file, go to the "Banking" drop down and under "Bank Fees" choose "Import Web Connect File".
Choose the file you downloaded and it will upload to your Bank Feeds.
This is fantastic. It has been an annoying problem for some time. Today was the last straw. Thanks you Michael K for the information (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/322329). Of course it worked like a charm.
