Question

How can I delete multiple transactions that are already in the register? (Not excluding transactions before they get added to the register)

Only thing I see is how to delete transactions before they are in the register. I need to delete the ones are already added to the register. Also, even when I delete them one by one, they are still there when I reconcile.

Hey there, shelleys.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I'd be glad to help point you in the right direction.

Deleting multiple transactions in the register is currently not available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We'll have to delete them on an individual basis. Being able to delete multiple transactions at once would be very convenient. I'd encourage you to submit feedback for our product engineers to look into and I'll do the same thing from my side.

Here's how to let them know:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your request/product suggestion, then click Next.
  4. Click Skip and send message.
  5. Select Feedback as the Category.

You can make sure any suggestions you have get to our developers.

On the other hand, it's possible the transaction you are deleting has already been reconciled. Deleting your changes put you out of balance the next time you try to reconcile.

Fill me in if you have further questions, I'll be around if you need any help. Have a great day.

Welcome to the Community, @humble226.

The option of deleting multiple transactions in the register isn't available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) yet. You'll have to delete transactions one at a time.

I want to ensure that customers like you are having the best possible experience while working with QuickBooks. If you think this option is what you need for your business, you may submit your feedback/product suggestions straight to our product engineers for future update.

To submit your suggestions, go to the Gear icon, select Feedback, share your feedback or suggestions under the Feedback page, click Next, and send your message.

We value your feedback and want your voice to be heard by addressing all concerns. Feel free to add a comment or drop a post if you have further concerns. We're always here to help you out. Wishing you continued success!

Yes, this IS possible and I have done it before. It requires you to have the local version on your desktop:  http://http-download.intuit.com/http.intuit/qbowinclient/download/index.html?referrer=qboApps

Thought I could do it online, as I am now having to do this again after QB was down for over a month, so as soon as I get the steps again I will post.

I'd appreciate if you could let me know. that would be awesome!

are the tech devs going to code us some magic or what?

February 1, 2019

I am sorry, but this software is terribly thought out and not ready for use. It's just not. There are way too many bugs and you are missing so many features that are available in desktop. Why? Seriously, please give me a reason why this version is so incomplete.

I have an account with over 100 transactions in it and I need to delete them.

Can you please have one of your support staff do this for me? I don't have the time?

P.S . Most of your online support staff are so inexperienced with your software.

Not sure if this helps, But you can go to Banking. then go to the Reviewed section, and undo transactions. Then they can be excluded, and/or deleted.

Saved me over 7000 transactions. (Somehow everything got downloaded twice.)

I do however agree, that this NEEDS to be a feature, because if you don't link your bank - or can't - you are up the proverbial creek. . .

February 9, 2019

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't have the account in banking anymore so adding it back in probably wont' work. I wish I hadn't removed it from the banking tab!

Why couldn't someone at QB online suggest this? it's such a good workaround.

Im using one of the apps that can batch modify transactions. Seems to be working.

Hello there, @brotherjug.

I’m here to provide additional information on how to view the actions made or history of the transactions in QuickBooks Online.

If the transactions are no longer listed under the For Review or Reviewed tab, you can view the audit log in your account to check the changes made to the transactions recorded in the system.

Here’s how to view the audit log:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose Audit Log.
  3. Filter it to show the specific information you want.
  4. Click Apply.

On the other hand, when a transaction is excluded, it is totally removed from your reports.

You can easily include your transactions again in your Banking list without manually adding its details. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Choose Excluded tab.
  3. Put a check on the boxes of the transactions to include again.
  4. Click Undo from the Batch actions drop-down.

I understand how important it is for you to have the ability to delete the unwanted transactions recorded in your QuickBooks account. I’d personally forward these suggestions to our Product Engineers for consideration in future updates.

If you have any suggestions, feedback and product requests for improvement, you can directly send it to us.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to Gear icon.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Type in comments or suggestions.
  4. Select Next.
  5. Click Skip.
  6. Hit Send Message.

I appreciate your patience, but feel free to contact me here if you have other questions about managing your transactions in QuickBooks Online. In the meantime, stay tuned to our Community page for new product updates and releases.

Has anybody successfully have a workaround for this on the "desktop" version?   Ugh.. I have 800 transactions to delete..   I believe the workarounds already listed are only available on the online version.

Hello there, @Delmer.

I'm happy to let you know that you can delete a batch of transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. And I'd be glad to help you with this.

First off, we'll need to have a backup file before you delete the transactions. To create a backup file, you can read through this article for the detailed steps and information: Create Backup of the QuickBooks Desktop Company File.

After creating the backup file, you can go to the Banking page and delete the transactions from there. Here's how:

  1. From the menu, select Banking.
  2. Choose Bank Feeds, then select Bank Feeds Center.
  3. In the Items Reviewed section, select the name of the account.
  4. Select the Select Items to Delete button.
  5. Choose the transaction(s) you wish to delete.
  6. Select the Delete Selected button.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.

If you're unable to delete all transactions, switch to Register mode to delete the statement.

To switch to Register mode, here's how:

  1. Go to Edit, then choose Preferences and select Checking from the left panel.
  2. Go to the Company Preferences tab.
  3. Select Register Mode and select OK, to save your changes.

You can also read this article for your reference: Remove Duplicate Transactions.

Please let me know how it goes or if you have follow-up question or concerns just leave a comment below.

Hi Mark_R,

Can you send a screen shot of where "Items Received From Financial Institution" are in the bank feed?  I can't seem to find this option on 2019 Desktop Pro.

(note: just to be clear:  the items were already imported incorrectly from the bank feed to my register.. I don't need to delete items in the bank feed)

I also called in to the QB help desk and they said that the only way to do this was to either restore a backup (which would overwrite all my accounts to the previous backup, or delete each one manually).    I would much prefer to use the method you suggested but I can't seem to find the options on screen to follow your directions.

This post alone is almost a year old and I'm sure there are posts from before this one... why hasn't this feature been added yet?  Does QB support listen to its users?  Delete... Confirm... wait for load delete... confirm... wait for load... for each transaction?  this is like buying notebook and you can't tear out the pages.  A fix for this should have been implemented long ago.  This is the only accounting software that integrates with my business software... but it's proving to be a process just to use it for simple tasks that should be included from the get go... oh and the people on the chat know little to nothing about the software.  I asked them questions and they just told me to call the number instead of providing me with the information I was seeking... that's bad business.  So is not listening to your customers.

I had about 7000 transactions to delete and came up with this solution. This is for linux but I'm sure there are similar options on Windows and Mac.

I installed xdotool that lets you script mouse moves and button clicks. I then worked out the screen coordinates for the 3 clicks needed to delete a record and set a 1 second delay between clicks. I could then run the script, leave the machine and 5 hours later I was done.

This is the script that worked for me when QBO fullscreen in chrome:

#!/bin/bash

for i in {1..7000}
do
       xdotool mousemove 599 599 click 1
       sleep 1
       xdotool mousemove 2200 650 click 1
       sleep 1
       xdotool mousemove 1500 820 click 1
       sleep 1
done

Is there any update for this topic? If QBO has already a feature that allows to delete transactions in the register by batch?
