How to undo categorization actions by user?

I have a big problem. My client had over 2200 uncategorized transactions. After spending an obscene amount of time, I got them all categorized. Mostly by vendor (Walmart=personal, Amazon=business supplies, etc.) based on past categorizations. Then I find out that the client's method for the last 4 years has been to categorize business expenses and leave personal uncategorized. This is why he had 2200 uncategorized transactions. He states that each of these vendors has a mix of personal and business transactions and he separates them by either categorizing them or not. Now I need to find out how to unmatch all of the transactions that I matched but leave the ones he matched. I looked into using the audit log, but there are over 7000 actions taken by me since I started helping him on March 12th. To undo them, I would have to go through all 7000 actions, find the transaction in the bank feed, and unmatch them. There has got to be a better way. Phone support was no help. If I could just pull a column into the bank feed showing which user categorized it, that would be ideal. If I could reset the books back to March 11th when I started this, that would be okay. But neither of those seem to be a thing. Please tell me there is a better way!

How to undo categorization actions by user?

We've got your back, @bclark21. Let me share some alternatives to unmatch transactions in QuickBooks.

We can use the Batch action feature to undo them. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Choose tile for the bank or credit card account you downloaded the transaction.
  3. Click the Categorized tab.
  4. Put a checkmark on the transactions you want to unmatch
  5. Lastly, click the Undo option.

I've also added this resource for more insights: Unmatch downloaded bank transactions or move them to another account.

After, you can start, reviewing and categorizing bank transactions in QuickBooks.

Feel free to comment down below if you have other banking concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be more than happy to help you. Have a wonderful day.

How to undo categorization actions by user?

Hello, thank you for your help but as I stated, I need a way to distinguish WHICH transactions to unmatch based on which user categorized them.  If I categorized them, I need to undo. If the owner categorized them, I need to leave them categorized. Preferably without sorting through the 7000 actions in the audit history.

Thanks for getting back to us, bclark21.

While we don't have an option to customize the columns in the Categorized section, we can pull up a report, and user it for reference when undoing the bank transactions. Here's how to do it:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner and select Audit Log.
  2. Click Filter and select All Users in the User field.
You can also select the specific one you want to review.
  3. Set the date range and mark Transactions under Events.
  4. Select All Transactions and click Apply.
  5. Click the Print (printer icon).

From there, we can open a new window for you to navigate back to the Banking (Categorized) page. This is where we can start comparing the report and what we have in the Categorized section. Then, you can undo the transactions.

That is the fastest option that we have for the time being. Keep us posted so we can further assist you with this.

Again, thank you but this is what I am trying to avoid. I already filtered the audit log by actions taken by me and there are 7200+ actions to sort through.
