Re-linking Bank Acount

Our bank account has been linked since we started QB.  The bank updated thier banking program and since then, we are not able to connect.  After contacting bank, they told me it's working on thier side that we need to contact QB to get it to connect.  Can anyone help with this problem?

Thanks

Hi @bjs4,

I'm here to help ensure you get connected to your online bank account.

In situations where your bank had some changes in their program, especially if their website link is different than before, then you'll have to reconnect using that updated link. To do that, you'll have to disconnect your current connection first. Before you proceed, please check that you don't have any transactions under the For Review tab.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Banking tab.
  2. Ensure the bank account in question is highlighted in blue.
  3. Click the Edit (pencil) icon.
  4. Select Edit account info.
  5. On the next window that appears, scroll down and tick the checkbox Disconnect this account in save.
  6. Press Save and Close.

As for your bank transactions, as long as they were added or matched before, they will stay on the same bank account in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company. Proceed with reconnecting to your online bank account, and enter the new link for it.

Once this process is done, I suggest you reconcile the bank account to check that both your QBO bank's balance agrees with your actual bank's balance. See this article for more details: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online

I'll be around in case you need further assistance. Place a comment below, and I'll get back to you.

I did this step by step as per above post.  When I go to search for the bank and choose to link, it still gives me the same message.  I did notice that the Logo on the new bank account program is different than the old one but the url is the same.

I've got the steps so you can re-link your bank account in QuickBooks, bjs4.

First, you'll want to check your bank's website for messages, notifications, alerts, or announcements about new security requirements. Any display or sign-in issues on your bank’s website can potentially block QuickBooks from reconnecting your account.

If everything looks good, go back to the Banking menu. And, update anything like your account number, username, or password in QuickBooks as well.

Let me guide through the steps:

  1. Select the blue tile for the bank account, and then select the Edit ✎ icon to edit.
  2. Select Edit sign-in info.
  3. Update your info.

Once done, you need to do a manual download. Just click the Update button to update all of your bank and credit card accounts. If you see a message about additional authentication, follow the onscreen instructions.

Feel free to keep working during the update. You’ll get a notification when the update finishes. The number of transactions in the blue account tile will increase if QuickBooks downloads new transactions.

If you're still unable to reconnect your bank, I suggest downloading statements from their website. Then, manually import them to QuickBooks. Use these handy articles listed below for instructions:

Let me know how everything turns out by leaving a comment below. I'm always right here to make sure you're able to re-link your financial institution to QuickBooks.

I made sure everything was matched before I unlinked and relinked but now that I've relinked my history is gone. Did I need to select to download as far back as possible on the bank website? I think I just clicked the default on the bank site which was one year. I'm freaked because all my transactions are gone

Thanks for joining the thread and sharing your experience with us, @Rebecca83.

I've got some insights to share with you about the missing historical transactions when reconnecting your bank account in QuickBooks.

When a bank or credit account is disconnected from QBO, the bank feed will no longer show unaccepted or uncategorized transactions. Those that have been added, categorized, or matched will still appear on your register. Follow these steps to review them from there:

  1. From the left pane, select the Accounting then go to the Chart of Accounts tab.
  2. Locate the bank account where the transactions are coming from.
  3. Click on View register.
  4. From there, you'll see the lists of transactions.

On the other hand, for connected accounts, other banks allow you to download more than 90 days of transactions. However, most of them will only allow up to the last 90 days.

To see if you can bring those prior transactions back, try hitting the Update button on the Banking tab. To guarantee that all transactions in the feed are synced, I recommend performing this two to three times.

If you're still unable to find the transactions, I suggest you manually import the transactions in QBO. After you bring back all the transactions you want, you can start categorizing them. Once ready, you can also reconcile your bank account.

Don't hesitate to comment back if you need more help handling your bank transactions. We're here to back you up. Have a good one!

I changed cards on that account, for security purposes. Adding the new card now...

I am trying to link the new Citi account, but I can't find the list of cards. I can find them on my Meadow Brooks account, but not in the personal account.

But on the personal page Banking tab only takes me to the opportunity to sign up for a checking account. There is no list of linked accounts. I can't find it under any of the tabs.  ??

OK, I was able to find it. The card # is no longer active, but the edit button doesn't give me a clear way to enter the new card number. Should I delete this card and enter the new card as "new" or can I edit the current account?
