Payroll subscription verification

QuickBooks will not connect to verify my payroll subscription. My subscription is active and renews in January. Is there something I am missing or is there an issue with the payroll subscription service?

Issues with verifying your payroll subscription can occur due to an inactive subscription or outdated QuickBooks Desktop software. Since your payroll subscription is active, ensure you have updated QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release and downloaded the most recent tax table.

Here's how to check if you have the latest release:
 

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Press F2 (or Ctrl+1) to open the Product Information window.
  3. Verify your current version and release against the latest available versions:

QuickBooks 2024 Version R18_47.

I receive Error 557 when I select Account/Billing Information under the Payroll Service tab. I also receive Error PS036 when I try to do a payroll update or click the error icon on the home page to verify subscription

  • Data damage
  • Product not updated
  • Incorrect Service Key
  • Invalid number or EIN

 

To resolve these, you can follow the step-by-step procedures outlined below. We’ll start by verifying your payroll service subscription:

 

  1. Close all your company files and restart your computer.
  2. Open QuickBooks and go to the Employees section.
  3. Choose My Payroll Service, then select Manage Service Key.
  4. Your Service Name and Status should be correct and will show as Active.
  5. Click Edit and verify the service key number. If incorrect, enter the correct service key.
  6. Select Next, uncheck the Open Payroll Setup box, then hit Finish.

 

If the same error occurs, register and update your account to receive the latest software improvements: 

 

  1. Press F2 on your keyboard to open Product Information.
  2. Besides the license number, check if it's activated. If it doesn’t say activated, proceed to register it.
  3. Once registered, ensure to update it to the latest version.
  4. Then, download the latest payroll tax table update.

I originally thought this issue was a payroll subscription problem. It is actually a problem with the desktop subscription. When I press F2 it shows account is activated but I can only access in View Only Mode now.
