I had difficulty starting to condense a file in Accounts desktop 2022. After updating QB, using Tool Hub and file doctor, and verify & rebuilding, I was able to get the condense process to begin. The help article said the process could take minutes or even hours. Well I left the file open and running overnight, and this morning the icon is still in my task bar, and PC and drive lights are flashing, but when I look at Task Manager, the 4 open process under QuickBooks show no activity on the processor. When I click the taskbar icon, QuickBooks tries to open but warns me that a file is already open and only Accountant and Enterprise can open more than one file at a time. This is puzzling. What is my next step? I am tempted to go to Task Manager and end the task.
How big is the file size? More than 1 GB?

Open the sample file and try to condense it. If you didn't encounter any problem with the sample file, your company file is corrupted. You can purchase a 3rd party service to condense your file.
