Item list type This is my dilemma.......any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. When I started with my current company 3 years ago all of their Items were listed as Service or Sales Items instead of inventory or non inventory and only one sided. . This as a bookkeeper is driving me nuts. All my numbers seem to be off. I know in QB desktop you can not change the type from Service or Inventory. This is the last thing I am concerned about fixing before tax time(if possible) I would like for any changes to reflect 2021 going forward, but not sure if that will be feasible. I do not want to change history for 2020 and prior as those periods are closed. This is a very small business sales/ service company with 6 employees and the prior boss wasn't as malicious as I am with the books. If I have to redo the Item list to retype them then I will but have a lot items, maybe an easy way to do it suggestion? Thanks so very much in advance.

Hi @Geb140, I'll surely help change the type of your items.

You can export and import the list of items to change them from service types to inventory items. I'll show you how.

Go to Lists.
Select Item List.
On the Excel menu, select Export All Items.
Click Export.

You may need to mark all existing items as inactive to make sure your file won't create duplicates. Changes to your items will also affect only to future transaction recordings.

From here, remove certain columns on the Excel file and save them per item type to import service items easily as inventory items. Use this article to learn more: Import and Export Data in QuickBooks Desktop.
