QuickBooks Update Not Working even though I'm the only Admin

I'm logging in as an admin user account (I'm the only one who has admin rights, actually) and I get an error message stating that "Looks like you don't have the required permissions.  Contact your system administrator." when I try do a software update.  This appears right as I'm opening the file.  I'd like to keep up to date, obviously, but this makes it impossible for me to update.  Any help would be appreciated!

Usually, this error message occurs if the file is read incorrectly on a Windows computer. You can follow the steps below to fix the issue:

 

  1. Close all the programs then restart your computer.
  2. Right-click QuickBooks Desktop icon.
  3.  Select Run as the Administrator.

Once done, you can now update QuickBooks to the latest release or set up QuickBooks to automatically download the updates.

Thanks very much!  I see now that I had to be an admin on my Windows account, not the QB account.  It looks like it's updating now as expected.

I get the same notice for some time now and now the QB update service notice closes QB and it doesnt load at all

Let's fix the error you're having to load your QuickBooks account, @tgrichardson25.

 

You can run the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tools Hub to help you resolve the error when trying to load QuickBooks. 

 

Here's how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Once done, download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and open the file after you successfully downloaded it.
  3. Select Program Problems in the QuickBooks Tools Hub.
  4. Click on Quick Fix my Program
  5. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

In case, you'd still encounter errors, then I suggest checking the following reference and follow the remaining solutions to fix the error: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.
