Thanks,
I was told the exact same thing about 6 months ago.
Would it be possible to contact the engineering team to figure out the status.
I am assuming some progress have been done in the last 6 months, I would like to know about them.
Also, are they looking at making it compatible with other browsers?
The end of IE has been talked about for years. Even if you ignore Microsoft's announcements, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that when Edge first came out that IE was on its way out the door. Unfortunately, Intuit has dragged their feet about this for years.
C'mon! As a Advanced Certified ProAdvisor, I pay over $800 for a product suite and dedicated support that won't download from one of the largest banks in the world because of this failure to manage reality. I have clients whose cash flow needs depend on rapid and updated bank information.
And don't tell me to download a file for import like was recommended in a thread back in January. That's not an answer to the problem. You have an advertised feature that does not work.
And on the opposite side I also have clients that need absolute independence from the internet, because of location or security reasons, but Intuit requires an internet connection to verify the desktop license periodically. That can be a show stopper for some of my clients.
Please respect the needs of your desktop based clients.
Today Microsoft is pushing me the Windows 21H1 update which removes IE completely from my system. I can hold this update for a few more days but the QuickBooks depedency on IE needs to be resolve ASAP, like NOW dam it.
Intuit, please respond.
Today Microsoft is pushing me the Windows 21H1 update which includes the systematic removal of IE from my computer. I can hold on this update for a few more days, but not much longer. The QuickBooks dependency on IE needs to be resolved ASAP, as in NOW dam it !
Intuit, please respond.
THANK YOU !!!!!!! I have been working on this issue for 2 days. It worked!!!!!
It would be helpful to know what it was that worked!
I am experiencing the same problem. I bought a new laptop, and do not want IE or Edge on my computer. However, Quickbooks will not open without IE. If you try to download IE from Microsoft, you get Edge, which does not help with opening Quickbooks. Please resolve this problem soon. I am now running my old laptop just for Quickbooks, since the new one cannot open my company files because of the browser problem. (Please do not suggest making IE the default browser. You can't get it anymore and no one wants it for a default.)
WOW! This is unacceptable.
NO WORRIES???
Do these threads actually make a bit of difference??? Absolutely worthless seeing QB Admin or any other QB person reply on here. You guys make it worse. Wrong answers. Avoidance of the issue.
INTERENET EXPLORER IS DEAD.
The time to fix this is over and because you don't have a good competitor, you don't bother fixing the problem.
SHAME. YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED THAT YOUR USING A JUNK OLD BROWSER WITH NO SECURITY.
IT IS PATHETIC.
Any other response to the contrary is a lie.
FIX IT--- YESTERDAY
It's obvious that Intuit doesn't care about internet security. I no longer use any bank downloads from IE and never use any of the help article within Quickbooks. Google is my friend.
It is highly possible we don't need IE to run QB Desktop in 2024 once MSFT ended their support for Win 8.1.
This is an update for my post I made about 6 weeks ago.
I called tech support and they assured me that the version of QB Desktop I'm running will run fine without Internet Explorer. It took a while to get the balls to do it, but I just did. I created a Windows restoration point, installed Windows 21H1 update, rebooted and then started my QuickBooks PME Pro 2019.
It appears they were right, it does work. Even the help system still works. I will update if I run into issues but so far it appears safe to install Windows update 21H1.
IMO it's a big fail on QB's part for not responding in this thread for over a year.
Intuit is so unhelpful. Do Method 1 and it will work.

SERIOUSLY!?!? Was moving back to Desktop after a 2 year dumpster fire that is Quickbooks Online, Microsoft has finished throwing the dirt on the grave of IE, the family is in the limo heading to the wake and Intuit is showing up like, 'Great party huh?' IE still required for QB Desktop 2021? Unbelievable!
That suggestion sounds good in theory but I just was working on a system that got recent round of windows updates and Cannot run internet explorer.
10.0.19042
System File check utility ( sfc /scannow ) says the windows installation is healthy.
The change windows optional features shows an empty checkbox for IE11 but checking it does no good. There is no activity after placing a check in the box next to IE and saving/closing the dialouge box. Re-opeing the optional features again and the checkbox shows cleared again.
This system worked well until this week when it applied a recent round of windows updates. Rebooting - disabeling antivirus , trying microsoft KB, system restore points etc all fail to bring back IE 11 thus making quickbooks usable.
Intuit support suggesting purchasing the latest version of quickbooks desktop but IE11 apparently is a requirement even for the latest version of Quickbooks.
So I expect your development team will be needing to put this issue to a high priority since microsoft is saying
"Microsoft is disabling Internet Explorer on these versions/editions of Windows:
This change affects all supported consumer and enterprise editions of Windows 10, but there won’t be any noticeable changes if you use in-market Windows 10 LTSC or Server edition of Internet Explorer 11.
After these deadlines have passed, Internet Explorer 11 will be disabled and users won’t be able to use it. Internet Explorer will be redirected to Microsoft Edge if you manage to access it. "
I am having the same issue. Problem I am having is I cannot turn on internet explorer nor can I install it. I'm getting a install error. I cannot reset my pc either. I am seriously about to cry. I absoltely need access back to quickbooks to run my business. Please help.
Welcome to this thread, @ritzypooh. I understand what you've been through, and I'm here to help you get past this error so you can get access to Quickbooks again.
To fix your Internet Explorer browser issue, you'll need to repair and reinstall the program. Also, please ensure you meet the browser requirements. At this time, QuickBooks Desktop 2021 requires internet access and Internet Explorer 11 (32-bit).
You can check out this article to learn more about theSystem requirements for the best experience in QuickBooks Desktop 2021.
Feel free to message again if there's anything else I can do to help. I'm here to lend a hand. Take care.
Unfortunately, it does not solve the issue. For some new models of computers, it is completely impossible to reinstall Explorer.
Do you know if Quickbook has found a solution to an issue that has been raised almost 3 years ago? Also, considering that it is not recommended to continue using Explorer and it is about to be 100% discontinued.
Unfortunately, that does not solve the issue.
On some recent computers, it is now impossible to install explorer.
Do you know if Quickbook has done any progress, considering the fact that the issue has been raised about 3 years ago and that it is not recommended to be installed and has stopped being supported by Microsoft last August 2021 and will soon be completely discontinued?
Can we finally get an update from Quickbook?
So what is Intuit doing about Windows 11 that releases next week and doesn't have IE at all. will QB desktop work with Edge's IE mode?
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
How utterly stupid is this response. I am not having issues with IE 11 since I won't use it. My complaint still hasn't been addressed by quicken except for inane asinine responses such as this one. I don't need to reinstall, I need quickbooks to stop using an insecure web browser!
Okay, so 2022 will only run on Windows 64bit. That's good considering Microsoft stopped support of 32-bit Windows in May of 2020.
Or do you mean that QB will finally be a 64-bit application? (finally, when the end of 32-bit OS and 32-bit applications has been foreseen for a long, long time).
