I do not process CC with Innovative, I have a 3d party plugin that does that. Nor do I care about automated bank downloads as I can input that manually. No payroll, no nothing beyond the basics in QB such as accounting and printing reports.
Do I really need to upgrade? Can I not just go about my (small) business?
Thanks for any insight,
I'm sure it will function fine. I am thinking the same thing. When you say input your banking transactions manually do you mean by getting the QBO file from the bank yourself and uploading it? This is my question. If this will still work I don't need to spend the money as I don't use any other frills either.
I can download a text version from my bank, then mark the transactions as verified by hand. Most will be there already, I will just have to enter autopay bills as they are paid. The average number is entries is about four/five per day.
Ok, so you're saying the QBO file I get from my bank will no longer upload as it used to when I open it?
Thanks.
Hello Mia77,
Thank you for posting here in the Community. Allow me to step in and help provide information about unsupported QuickBooks Desktop version.
If you're using the QuickBooks Desktop 2016 version, the access to add-on services will be only until May 31, 2019. Please note that uploading of transactions using a QBO file from your bank will also be unavailable.
For more insights on what will happen to discontinued QuickBooks Desktop, I'm adding the article I recommend on this (scroll down to What are the affected 2016 services?):
QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation (Disco) policy and upgrade information.
The only option you can try is importing transactions using the IIF file format. I'm adding an article below for the available data you can import, and it includes the detailed steps as well:
Export or import Intuit Interchange Format (.IIF) files.

I understand bank feeds will not work. I have never set up bank feed through QB as my bank has several names listed. I download a file directly from my bank and it does upload into QB automatically. But if that doesn't work they also have a CSV file I can open and then use my mouse to click the Cleared column. Half the time I have to correct one or more of the automatched entries that QB makes from the download.
How many line items you have is important for this function and I don't have many and have to double check anyway.
Thank you AlcaeusF for stepping in.
What does the lack of critical security updates entail? I didn't see any critical security updates in the past that I can recall. My PC is isolated and I don't have email on it and only use the internet for the bank and some contact to businesses that directly relate to accounting, such as my banks. All other business is on other machines.
But what security updates would I expect to receive if I updated?
You're welcome, Knowingthis.
Let me start by saying how much I appreciate your response concerning the updates for QuickBooks Desktop
Installing critical updates will apply some changes to the database. You might encounter some unusual or unexpected behaviors while using the program if you don't install them.
The security updates you'll be getting aren't limited to a specific topic only. I recommend enabling Automatic Update for you to determine what this includes on your QuickBooks program.
For the detailed information about the updates, I'm adding an article below that includes the previous patches of the 2016 version:
Recent changes, improvements, and fixes in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows 2016.
You can keep in touch with me here should you have any additional questions or concerns. I want to make sure you're taken care of.
