Scam Call

I received a phone call from "Intuit" today, it was an Indian man and he was telling me that the annual dues for my account were being declined. I said we pay monthly and there was a charge on the 5th of April, he said that's my monthly employee dues and that I need to pay my annual every year in April for $299.00. He directed me to where I need to update my information and everything there was up to date. I didn't give him any card infp over the phone.

My question is, is there an annual fee on top of the monthly fee that is paid?

Scam Call

Let me ease your confusion, NB34.

There are two billing options for QuickBooks Online:

  • Monthly payment
  • Yearly payment

There isn't an annual payment on top of the monthly fee. It's a good thing that you didn't provide your credit card information.

You also have the option to switch to annual or monthly billing.

Feel free to let us know if you have other questions. We'll get back to you as soon as we can. Keep safe!

@NB34

As long as you didn't click any link he gave earlier, you should be ok.

Scam Call

We received a very similar phone call today, the man on the phone (also with an Indian accent) called from a Chicago, IL phone number and claimed that our annual payment did not go through. They asked for the name of the person who answered the phone call, but they also knew the name of our business. They sort of had us convinced for a minute but we did not give them any personal information. We asked them to call us back and gave them actual quickbooks support phone number!

Scam Call

They took this one step further. I requested a call from QB support and when I got the call it sounded like the same guy who had been calling me. He offered help but transferred me to someone else he said could help me with my particular problem. I was on the phone with him for 1.5 hours. He helped and it was pretty muck like other calls but he did use a you tube video as an example; I don’t know if that’s typical or not. He even connected to view my screen using GlanceGuest. He then transferred me back to the first guy, first explaining that I had to update billing on my annual fee. It turned out to be ‘Jason’ who had called the previous times requesting an update. I went along, partly curious and partly exhausted for the 1.5 hours and all the QBO headaches I’ve had. I gave him my card number, called back shortly afterwards where a support person asked me to search the Intuit site for my transaction and it wasn’t there.

The phone number he is calling from is [Removed] and the email after the call came from Robin at [email address removed]. The charge on my card says qbsupport, which I will of course dispute.

It is highly disturbing to me that they called me through the QuickBooks system when I requested a call!

Scam Call

I live in Canada. Today, I received a call from a (probably spoofed or fake) California number [Removed]. The man said he was from ''Intuit'', explained that they were receiving QuickBooks Online "Notifications" from my account. He wanted to ''help'' me fix that and wanted to ''verify'' my identity etc. I told him this sounded like a total scam; and requested him to just tell me how I could access those ''notifications''. Blah blah. Needless to say, I did not give any more details and he eventually ended the call because this phone exchange was going nowhere. Be careful people.

Scam Call

I got a similar call today.  I had posted a question on the Community site.  While I was on the support chat with Intuit, I got the phone call.  This guy wanted to screen share.  It didn't seem necessary, so I asked him for step by step instructions.  He was impatient and didn't want to wait until the situation was resolved.  He said again he needed to screen share.  I asked if he was with Intuit, he said he was not.  I asked how he got my number.  He said it was from my Community post.

Just a heads up as this is still going on.

Received a call today with the same MO.

I looked up this thread while he was talking.

Told him to get a real job and to have a nice day  ;-)

Be careful as it was one of the most polished presentations I've heard to date.

Scam Call

We had the same call today 3/1/22.  Fortunately, we're aware of these folks, as they nailed us four years ago for $1199 for "support."

Today, they claimed our card "on file" was declined for our annual subscription of $399 (wrong) - which renews in the 4th quarter each year and already processed.  He wanted a new card number.  I asked him for our Quickbooks customer number and tax ID, which he could not provide.  I asked him what version of QB he showed we used.  He couldn't answer.  He then asked to link in to our company file to determine why the current card wasn't working.

PS:  Here's the fraudsters' information.  STAY AWAY!!!!
[removed]

I told him in unpolite terms to get lost.

Scam Call

Just received a similar call today. My office gave me a message to call "Jasmine" back, but when I called they did not put me through to "Jasmine". The person who answered told me that our annual renewal did not process because our credit card expired. When I asked him for what product (as we have several), he told me it was Desktop Support. I told him we did not have anything renewing at this time, and he insisted it expired on February 25th. I believe he was trying to get me to give him my credit card information.

Caveat to our post from 3/1/22 -

Our company president was alerted by a monitoring service that someone from "Intuit" tried to back door charge something similar via his personal info for an "annual subscription."  Fortunately, he's got alerts set for fraudulent activity.

So beware the scammers!

Scam Call

I received 2 calls from Intuit urging me to pay 299.00 for 2 years of customer support.  I told them I didn't want it and they told me it would be a 1000.00 per call for customer support if we had an issue. I asked what kind of bullsht is that? He didn't know what to say!  I have used customer support once in 12 years so this sounds like a scam.  Anyone else get this bull call?

Scam Call

I just got a call saying the annual QB support charge was unable to renew and needed an updated form of payment. I said that's strange because my card does not expire yet. I looked up my acct and everything is good.  She said it would not show up where the regular renewal was, this was an additional feature. She said "go ahead and click Ctrl 1 and you should see a pop up" I did not go ahead and click Ctrl anything. I said if I had a problem with my services later, I would call QB directly.

Scam Call

"Jacob" from this company just called me. Came up as 'Anonymous' on the caller-id. I told him I need a legitimate phone number for security purposes and that I would call back. He gave me a phone number ending in #9213 - when you Google this number, a closed company in the midwest shows up.

He gave me the same spiel as others have posted. Our "annual" QuickBooks Desktop somethingsomething expired. I said no, I just paid that 6 days ago. This same company had called me about a week or two prior to this also giving me this same line. I said I would call QuickBooks and sort it out.

I called QB again today and they confirmed our account is just fine. Everything is current, and there is no 'annual fee' as we pay for service monthly. Additionally, I just updated our company file with new CC info, as the previous card had expired.

I called this company back and informed them I was recording the call. This time, the guy said I wasn't allowed to do that. I said I am definitely allowed to do that as long as I inform him of such. He fought with me about it, and I said I need to be taken off your calling list. He asked for more information, to which I declined. I said remove our number, I just spoke to QB and they confirmed our account is fine so clearly you are not legit. The three times I've spoken with this "company" it has been individuals with a heavy Indian accent. Likely robo-dialing and trying to make you think there's something wrong with your QB.

Scam Call

I received a call today from a Quickbooks Rep with a blocked number saying the same thing, and that my credit card information was wrong or missing information. This person also sounded like he was from India or another mid eastern country. I told him I wasn't going to give him any information over the phone and he said that's fine I can enter it into my desktop Quickbooks. OK fine, so he walks me through but in the end says it's still not going through. He then says we need to enter it on his end. So at this point he already verified he does work for QB so I (regrettably) gave him the information. When I asked what the charge is that was going through he said $499.99 I told him I'm not paying another $500.00 on top of the $600.00 we just paid for our new Quickbooks back in March. He said if was for a separate subscription which we have never had and I didn't want. I argued with him for quite some time and I finally told him where to go and hung up the phone.

I got online to research this and saw that I'm not the only one being told we "Have to have this subscription". And to make matters worse that I paid almost twice for Quickbooks what I would have paid had I simply went to Staple and purchased a copy there. The only reason we purchased this in March was because the person who called us from QB told us Quickbooks had an update and our current QB won't work for payroll etc. even though my QB wouldn't expire until mid May. But I said fine just get it done so we can use our Quickbooks. I realize now I was scammed by the very people working for Quickbooks.

I can only conclude that these foreigners are working for commission and they are making sales calls in an attempt to get us to purchase more expensive versions of Quickbooks (which I did not realizing I was being scammed) and trying to up sell subscriptions. This is what these guys did with us.

I logged into the Quickbooks "Camps" portal and unsubscribed from the service he was trying to sell me, but I also called my bank to cancel my current credit card because of this interaction today. I felt scammed and that this person is not honest. I would quit using QB entirely if it wasn't for the fact that our point of sale system is integrates with QB. This is at best bad business practices, but feels more like a scam to take advantage or people like myself just trying to run my business.
