I got suspicious when our email security flagged it as "potential spam". I then Googled the phone number and ended up in this discussion group.

I fell for the scam and I’m not a gullible person. They had all my account information and this came from someone internally at Quickbooks that hijacked my account. They claim they are Quickbooks, but aren’t and frankly Intuit has been of no help to get my information and program back. Currently hostage to this group I assume are in India.

I truly think that the root cause that people are falling for this scam is the behavior of Intuit. I have received an error message many times in quickbooks desktop -- a non-subscription version that I purchased a CD for -- that "your subcription is expiring...".  I didn't do anything, because how can software that I paid a one-time fee for expire? Well then I got the message in Quickbooks Desktop -- "Your subscription has expired".  I could not get into my company books, could not invoice, pay bills or even do payroll.  I called the intuit number for support to get help, and the only way that they would fix this was for me to upgrade to quickbooks 2023. That was an entire other debacle! 2023 was not ready for prime time, broke my sales tax integration, and Intuit REFUSED to give me 2022. Hours of fighting on the phone to finally get what I needed (after going on twitter to escalate this).  Isn't this exactly how Ransomeware works -- someone holds your data hostage until you pay a fee?

 

Having this happen to me, I was quite sensitive when I got a phone call soon after this experience, with the caller ID saying "Intuit", and being told the exact words that caused me a week of trying to recover -- "Your subscription is expiring".  I was not quick to rule this out as a scam, because I did not want to be put through the same ordeal all over again. I decided to hang up, and check my credit card on my Intuit account, which was absolutely fine.  I didn't get that message again for a few months, and had to call Quickbooks support again to fix the licensing problem, but the call was in fact a Scam, and it was a good thing that I ignored it.

I received a phone call as well from John claiming he is from Quickbooks accounting department. It was a voice message and he left me a phone number to call which is [removed] I called the number and the voice prompt is saying  "thank you for calling the accounting software" so I thought it was legit. Anyways, I spoke to John saying that the credit card on file is declining and would need an updated ccd. I asked what was the charge for and the amount. He said it's for Tech support software for $799.00 one time fee good for 2 years and if we opt not to pay it we will be billed every time we call QuickBooks for any software assistance. He also said that a mass e-mail was sent to the customers late last year about this new upcoming charge due to the 2023 upgrade. As soon as I heard that I already knew that something wasn't right so I told him that we're not interested and we're not paying for such kind of charge on top of the yearly subscription we already paid for. I told him that I find it odd that the sales person who assisted me with the subscription didn't even mention any of this extra fee. Then he said that payment I was pertaining to is just for the quickbooks license itself and it doesn't cover any tech support software issue which I then said we're still not interested so I am not providing our ccd information. Try that number and let them know that you're already aware of their scam I just tried to ring it and it still works.

I just received this same scam call today from [removed].  They said they sent the invoice and if I wanted to pay for it with a credit card.  I knew it was scam, so I asked for the invoice number and they said they had to find out and call me back.  This is crazy.

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Please give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect.

SO DO THE SCAM EMAILS!!!  STOP telling customers any different.  

Have you ever heard of PHISHING?  That's not meaning you go out with a stick and catch dinner.  It means THE SCAMMERS take YOUR information, whether phone number or email address, and use it to gain access to YOUR customers information, so they can get money.

At least hire support people that can read, I very cleared typed that I received a CALL, not email.  I did not say I was getting any emails! Your answer along with 99% of your tech support is useless.

I also received a phone call from "Intuit" [removed]  today, it was also an Indian man telling me that the annual dues for my account were being declined. My file shows that I have just renewed annually 6 months ago and every year at that same time. 

He sent an email with my license information and directed me to where I need to update my information in QB (but I can’t log in).  He said he would have support call.  Then he said he would have “billing team” send an invoice.  He wanted me to pay right away and he had to refresh my account.  I told him I would pay when I got the credit card.  He gave me a reference number and ext 102, and his name was Steve, and said he’d call back in an hour or two.  I did NOT pay this invoice.  Emails ([email address removed]   &  [email address removed])  were reported as phish.

It's disconcerting to know that there are scammers out there with private quickbooks information (License numbers) who somehow obtained that info from Intuit.

 

While it is probably not good PR, I think customers should be informed that their information was compromised, and to watch out for scammers who know our license numbers.

You can purchase new licenses from selected partners and not use your own email address or phone number to register them. You don't even use your credit card to pay for it.

Interesting that you mention this.  I purchased my first version of QB in the store. Last year, Intuit decided to "expire it" and forced me to provide a credit card number to upgrade and continue.  Now I'm on "subscription". I felt like my books were held hostage for a ransom. Updates are now forced upon me, whether or not I want them, or they work with my integrations.

 

Is anyone (US based) still running a version they purchased years ago, and have not been forced into this model.

As long as Intuit allows their support personnel to access customer databases anywhere, these fraudulent operations will not stop. That's why I advise our clients to purchase QB Desktop licenses through partners.

Is [phone number removed] a legitimate QuickBooks number?  We are getting an error message 6150 in a popup every time we open QuickBooks  - but only on one computer. No other computer gets this error, and we haven't been able to call up that specific error #.

 

This is on QuickBooks desktop  - the message tells us to call this number.

The number you are attempting to contact does not appear to be valid. I recommend reaching out to our support team as they can provide you with the guidance and answers you need for your concerns.

 

Here's how you can contact our support team:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. In QB Assistant, enter the topic you need help with. You can also enter questions.
  4. In Search, select Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
  • Start a chat with a support expert. Live chat all day, M-F.
  • Call us. M-F, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and S-S, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

We appreciate you for reiterating your QuickBooks product, Credit1. Let's work together to fix the error you encountered when opening QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) so you can resume your business activities.

 

Error message 6150 indicates a potential data integrity issue. This can usually be caused by internal (within QuickBooks) or external (file location) factors. To get rid of it, we'll have to install the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of QuickBooks Tool Hub and then run the File Doctor utility.

 

For the best experience, we recommend using this tool on Windows 10, 64-bit. Then, follow the steps below to run QuickBooks File Doctor:

 

  1. Go to Company File Issues.
  2. Select Run QuickBooks File Doctor.
  3. Select your company file from the drop-down menu.
  4. Choose Check your file, then tap Continue.
  5. Enter your admin password and click Next.

 

Once finished, open your QuickBooks company file again.

I got this call as well. When I stated I didn't feel comfortable to provide card over phone, they sent me an email that showed my liscence number correctly, from [email address removed]. After calling quickbooks I was informed this is not their address, and there is no annual services fee additional to the annual subscription fee.

When is your subscription due date? Consider renewing it through a partner. Your CAMPS data has been compromised and they will try other fraud attempts in the future. Change your phone number in CAMPS for the time being.

My subscription expires at the end of the month, it is set up for automatic renewal. I received a call today from a man stating my credit card had expired, which it did. He had my name. the last 4 digits of the credit card and verified the account by him giving me the account number. He then offered a 3 year subscription for the cost of 2 years. I agreed so he sent an invoice with a payment link. He said not to use the "Review and pay" link but under that there was an easier way to pay at https://pay.airwallex.com/sggva9wlkf42. I told him I would pay and hung up.

I then went to Help in QuickBooks and requested a call back. It was very good that I did because it was a scam. The agent told me it did come from a valid email address which is @notifications.intuit.com but the call was a scam. We did a Glance Screen Share so she could see the email.

They do not offer 3 year subscriptions, only 1 year. And, the payment would have been directly to Intuit. She is reporting this to the Intuit fraud department.

It is very concerning that had all of our company Intuit information.
