Scam Call

First of all I do not believe for a second that this person who called us was some scammer (someone outside Inuit), clearly they work for Intuit. It's the same foreigners we spoke with in March when we called Quickbooks tech support to find out why our payroll service stopped working. This is when they told us we had to upgrade to this much more expensive ($569.00) version of QBs. What they didn't tell us was that we would also be charged another $499.99 annual subscription on top of the regular payroll service I already pay you.

This is what the person who called Monday was telling us, that the subscription needed to be paid or we'd lose our payroll service because some payment information was missing. So when I thought we were being scammed I hung up and then logged into your CAMPS portal. Once there I could see that in March they did indeed sign us up for this $499.99 subscription? So I canceled it because it was something we never had or needed before but low and behold we can't do payroll again even though I'm still paying the Monthly $45.00 a month for your basic direct deposit payroll service. So I am confused to say the least.

What I would like is a call from someone in the U.S corporate office to call me and explain why when my Quickbooks payroll service stopped working back in March, and we called Quickbooks support we were told we had to upgrade to this more expensive version of QB AND why we have to pay this an annual fee or $499.99 a year, plus our monthly payroll fee of $35.00 to $45.00 a month just to be able to do payroll?

This is unacceptable, I've been a Quickbooks customer since 1994 when it was on 5 1/2" floppies, and I feel that all Intuit does anymore is attempts to squeeze more money out of us. We went from buying QBs Desktop every 3 years (about $250.00 to 350.00) plus $35.00 to $45.00 a month for basic payroll services, to $569.00 for this last version, (months before our current version even "expired"), which we know they don't expire, you just force us to by another version.  Add to that the $499.99 a year subscription for WHAT I have no idea, plus our monthly $45.00 payroll service?

Yes, I am feeling scammed but not by someone outside Intuit, but by Intuit itself.

Please have someone call me who's first language is English.

Scam Call

It isn't the kind of service I want you to experience, @DAJensen.

I appreciate all the details provided about what happened in the previous months. I know this hasn't been easy for you. I'm here to make sure you get pointed in the right direction.

My colleague Divina_N provided the link where you can report scam calls. I would also recommend contacting our support team for more information on the charges you received. While this is a public forum, this team is the ideal resource for such questions because they may request account information to pull up your company and give confidential information. They'll be able to further assist you in discovering the charge on your account once they have this information.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Contact support page at this link.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop.
    qbdtsupportt.JPG
  3. Click on Search for something else and enter Our credit card was charged twice after upgrading our QuickBooks.
  4. Hit Search.
  5. Select Start a Message.

It is also best to understand your subscription rates and charges in QuickBooks Desktop. This way, you can request a refund if there are invalid charges.

That should point you in the right direction. Let me know how it goes after contacting our support team. I'm only a few clicks away if you have any follow-up questions or concerns. Take care!

Scam Call

We received a call today from someone stating that they are from Quickbooks Support. They stated that the card on file used to process our annual fee was declined. We don’t use a card for our annual fee and the fee was already paid over a month ago. What was disturbing was that they knew the primary emails on file as well as the product license No. They proceeded to send an email to one of my colleague’s email address and it contained a table showing license information. Another disturbing detail was that the email came from [email address removed] . I checked with Intuit to make sure that everything was fine with our account and the rep stated that they saw the payment go through successfully last month and that the account is current. They also stated that they don't call customers about declined payments and that it must be scammers. Please beware.

Scam Call

Hi there, Beware.

I appreciate you for bringing and sharing this scam call incident to our attention and spreading awareness about this. With this, let me discuss how we can prevent these fraud calls from parties claiming to be affiliated with QuickBooks Support or Intuit.

Please know that you'll receive an error in your subscription billing once the credit card being used for payment is declined. Also, Intuit will only initiate contact if you requested a call back from our Support about an issue in QuickBooks.

On the other hand, Suspicious email can sometimes be a scheme to get you to share your personal info. These scams come in various forms but often look pretty convincing. Here are a few things to look for if you’re not sure an email came from Intuit.

  • We’ll never ask for your personal info in an email.
  • Our emails will always come from an email address that ends with @intuit.com. This includes @e.intuit.com.
  • Any link we send you in an email will always be for an intuit.com address.

Then, to make sure that your colleagues are only receiving legitimate e-mails concerning subscription billing details, they need to check if the email address being used is from Intuit. You can open this article to view further details and the several email addresses that are usually from Intuit: Is this email I received a legitimate communication from Intuit?.

Additionally, if you keep receiving this kind of call or any fraudulent acts, you can also go to our Online Security Center page. Then, select Go to security to view the list of suspicious emails and actions or to report the things you encountered. Also, our security tips can help you avoid fake customer support scams.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concerns. Wishing you and your business continued success.

Scam Call

I received a phone call today from a male with a Middle Eastern accent telling me our Priority Support Services was going to be separated from the annual bill for Enterprise Solutions we pay and that the cost is $849.99 and could he please have a credit card number to process the transaction? I asked him why didn't we receive an email he told me we did but that he needs to process the transaction now as it's past due. I asked him to send me the email and he got frustrated and rude.  He told me he was going to disconnect our service and we were done!   Then he changed his story that he was not the dedicated customer service account manager but from accounting and that I was wasting his time because he had other customers. That's when I knew it was a scam. I told him if he was legitimate he would not be rude.  He hung up!

Scam Call

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Jewleeg68. Thank you for sharing this scam call incident to our attention and spreading awareness about this. Let me discuss how we can prevent these fraud calls from parties claiming to be affiliated with QuickBooks Support or Intuit. Then, ensure you can report this issue so you can avoid getting this spam call again.

You'll usually receive an email when there are changes or needs to update in your subscription billing. With this, you will be always notified with a pop-up message regarding your account. Then, to make sure that you're only receiving legitimate e-mails regarding subscription billing details, you need to check if the email address being used is from Intuit. You can open this article to view further details and the several email addresses that are usually from Intuit: Is this email I received a legitimate communication from Intuit?.

On the other hand, outbound calls from a QuickBooks representative won't provide any account information from you. They'll verify if you're the primary contact or admin of the account before performing any steps. If you keep getting the type of call or any fraudulent acts, you can also go to our Online Security Center page. Then, select Go to security to view the list of suspicious emails and actions or to report the things you encountered. Also, our security tips can help you avoid fake customer support scams.

Additionally, if you receive an email message about the suspicious billing that you believe is not from Intuit, you can forward any suspicious email or person directly to Intuit at spoof@intuit.com.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see steps on how you can view charges billed to your account: Find your QuickBooks Desktop billing history.

If you have any additional questions about your subscription, feel free to click the REPLY button below. I'm more than willing to assist you again, Jewleeg68. You have a good one.

Scam Call

We received a call like this last week.  It hit close to home, because Intuit actually TERMINATED MY SOFTWARE because my "subscription expired" last month. Perhaps the root cause of these scam calls, is the bad behavior of Intuit for actually terminating subscriptions (in my case, for NO VALID REASON), and holding company files hostage.  Yes -- it was actually INTUIT who did this to me last month, so now a scammer called and used the same exact phrase "your subscription is expiring", so I didn't want to quickly rule the call out as a scam.

Our office keeps getting a call that states QuickBooks "unable to process payments with card on file." However, our QB is through a bank - no card.  We get an 866 number to call, and when called,  it immediately disconnects.  Has anyone experienced this and how can we report this as a fraud call to warn others?

Scam Call

I get these spam calls often at my job. The Indian man tells us our credit card has been declined for renewal and I can give him our credit card number. I always tell them I do not have the card and he gives me a direct line 1-866-454-0420 to call back to get one of the special agents who would be happy to renew our account over the phone so we can continue to use quickbooks. I always tell them I know it's a scam and stop calling but they persist.

Scam Call

I am a Quickbooks user as well for years and they are now trying to extort me out of almost $2,000 more to do my account reconciliation, which has always been part of my account and are trying to claim it never was. Its been part of my service since the beginning, two days ago the scam was my server expired and they wanted money for that, today they say the server and cloud are part of my account but now the only accounting service I have is now not part of it. These people are crooks and I specifially a year ago after the last shakedown had it specific as all services are included and yet here we are arguing that it doesn’t state something specific in the services and they now keep changing up the scam!

You did a great job in bringing this matter to us, @Broker416.

It's a good idea not to let them use your computer. This keeps them from gaining access to Personally Identifiable Information (PII). I'm here to provide additional information to help you identify official Intuit emails and sort things out.

Scammers use emails to trick users into disclosing personal information or to download malware-infected attachments to gain unauthorized access to data sources. Some of them appear and claim to be from Intuit. Please note that Intuit emails will always come from an email address with the domain name @intuit.com. Let's make sure not to open or access any links that don't have that domain name.

You can also report this one to our Security Team to ensure your data is well protected.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://security.intuit.com/contact-us.
  2. Search for Report technical support scams.
  3. Hit Report tech support scams.

I've also added the following articles to learn more about managing scams or any other fraudulent activities:

I just got a very similar call. Jennifer (with a thick Indian accent) did not tell me what the price of the annual subscription was, but I think she also mentioned the employee dues. She said the card on file was declined and it could only be renewed manually over the phone. OK, sure. When I asked her if it was for QBO or QB Desktop, she had to pause a minute and stumbled with a response that it was for both services. I told her that my manager is the only one with access to the credit card and that I would pass along the information for her to look into, which she won't need to as our services are still activated.

My account was hacked about a year ago, luckily my credit card stopped the transaction. I just got a call from a man with an Indian accent from the phone number 855-951-1211 three times, then finally left a message. He said that QB has not been able to do its updates and I needed to call.

I also received a call from "Quickbooks" indicating it was time to pay my ANNUAL LICENSE FEE on top of my monthly fees.  The young woman said she was based in the Philippines  (which is where I usually speak to Intuit for support issues as well) .

VERY DISTURBING:  she knew my account number and the last 4 digits of my credit card,  and indicated this is annual.      I accidently said "go ahead"  as I was not adding any more information to the call  than what she already knew,

Afterwards it appeared on my credit card as follows:

QBSUPPORT [removed], 800-9415167, DE

As I googled this I realized its a scam,  and also my credit card information was immediately sold to other scammers and charges started to appear in Lima, Peru on the same day.     I cancelled my Card.

I'm aware of how crucial account security is, @Caladan39. We will exert every effort to stop these scam calls.

I want to make sure this will not happen again. At Intuit, we put a lot of effort into ensuring your data is safe. I can direct you to the proper place to report this suspicious contact.

Our QuickBooks support can't see the whole account and credit card numbers. The only thing we can see is the last 4 digits of your card number since that's all it shows in our system for security purposes. Also, our representative won't provide any account information from you. They'll verify if you're the primary contact or admin of the account before performing any steps.

I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team for more information on the charges you received. Our fraud team can further investigate the callers and take action on it as soon as possible.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Search.
  2. Choose the Contact Us tab.
  3. Enter your concern in the field and click Continue.
  4. Hit Get a call or Start a chat and complete the needed information.

Make sure to call them within business hours to guarantee a swift response.

In addition, you can report this to our security team. Rest assured that your concerns have been heard and will be handled accordingly. This way, they can take action on it as early as possible. You can follow the steps outlined by my colleague JamesAndrewM above.

Additionally, I've attached these links to learn how to recognize official Intuit correspondence and websites:

@GST_Man   They never stop.  It's not like Intuit/ QB is going to use the time and money that it will take to put a stop to it.  Sad thing is, a lot of the fraud going on is coming from within the company, itself.

Scam Call

Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, GST_Man.

There's a few things you can check to confirm if an email came from Intuit:

  • Intuit will never ask you for your personal information in an email.
  • Any link/URL sent by Intuit will always be for an Intuit.com web address.
  • Our emails always come from an address that ends with @Intuit.com or @e.Intuit.com.

I'd also recommend reviewing our online security tips to help keep your data safe.

If you've received an email you aren't certain about, you can check our security notices for details of suspicious emails reported by other Intuit customers. Suspicious emails will say they're from Intuit and may ask you to take actions like signing in to your account, providing personal info, downloading "tools", etc. If you've received one of these emails, don't open it or access any of its links. I recommend going to the Intuit Online Security Center for more details on what to do.

All official Intuit websites end in Intuit.com. A few examples include QuickBooks.Intuit.com, e3.Intuit.com, and click.notifications.Intuit.com.

You can report an email you suspect of targeting you for a phishing scam by going to the Intuit Online Security Center and selecting Go to security notices. If you don't see a similar email there, select Report a suspicious email to file a report.

Here's some additional things you can do to protect yourself from a phishing attack:

  • Never share your passwords with anyone.
  • Confirm you have strong passwords on your computer and any payroll files.
  • Install antivirus software and keep it up-to-date.
  • Make sure you're using a modern web browser and that it's up-to-date with its latest release.
  • Keep your operating system and any critical programs up-to-date with their latest releases/patches. These updates are commonly security-related.
  • Don't respond to any emails asking for details about your account(s), password(s), banking, or credit card details.
  • Don't open any attachment(s) that claim to be a software update. Intuit doesn't send software updates through email. It's best to never open any attachments unless you know its sender and/or you're expecting an attachment file from them in their email.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with scam emails which may come in handy moving forward: Identify suspicious activity, phishing scams, & potential fraud

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Wednesday!

@GST_Man   Don't let @ZackE  response fool you.  Even the fraudulent emails come from  @Intuit.com or @e.Intuit.com  and they know it.  It's called phishing.  It can be done with an email OR phone number.

I am SO SICK of Intuit telling people that if it comes from a specific email address, then it's real.  PROVE IT!!  Most the emails going out ending in  @Intuit.com or @e.Intuit.com are fake emails.  GET A CLUE ALREADY!!!

Even after 5  years, I have yet to receive an email from  @Intuit.com or @e.Intuit.com that is legit.
