Is there a fee for every bill pay transaction?

Yes, some QuickBooks Bill Pay transactions have a fee, but standard ACH payments are free

In QuickBooks Online, standard ACH bill payments don't cost anything, no matter which Bill Pay plan you're on (Basic, Premium, or Elite). You'll only see a transaction fee if you choose a faster payment method or pay by check.

Current fee breakdown

  • Standard ACH: Free on every plan.
  • Check payments: $1.50 per transaction, on every plan.
  • Faster ACH: $10 per transaction, when you need next-business-day delivery instead of the standard 3-5 business days.
  • Instant payments: 1% of the payment amount, with a $10 minimum transaction and a $100 maximum fee.

The Bill Pay plan you're on doesn't change these transaction fees. What it does change is your monthly subscription cost and which features you get, like how many bills you can batch into one payment, unlimited 1099 e-filing, or bill approval workflows.

Why this matters for your cash flow

If you're mostly sending standard ACH payments, you can pay vendors through QuickBooks Bill Pay without adding transaction fees to your books. Reach for a check or a faster delivery option only when a vendor specifically needs it, since those come with a per-transaction cost.
