Can't convert subcustomer to project

I follow the directions exactly where I create a project and then edit the customer display name to match. I have made sure it's not a sub-sub. Twice as I have worked through my customer list, I've had it ask me to merge properly. Every other time I have tried it, it doesn't merge them, creating an empty project. I can't understand why it worked for me with two customers but I can't proceed with my other customers. Everything seems identical.

I have here the steps to convert sub-customer to project, @mhovley.

First, make sure that the Project feature is turned on every time you convert or merge a sub-customer to an existing project.

Here’s how:

1. Select Settings ⚙, then select Account and settings.

2. Go to the Advanced tab.

3. Find the Projects section and select Edit ✎ to expand it.

4. Select the Organise all job-related activity in one place checkbox.

5. Select Save and close your settings.

If you already have an existing sub-customer and project, you can merge them. This transfers your existing sub-customer transactions to an existing project:

1. Select the Projects menu.

2. Find the project you want to merge your sub-customer with.

3. Copy the name of the project.

4. Go to the Sales menu and then select the Customers tab.

5. Find and open the sub-customer.

6. Select Edit.

7. In the edit window, change the Display name to match the project name exactly.

8. When you're ready, select Save and Yes to confirm the merge.

I talked to QB on the phone and they are escalating the problem since we couldn't resolve it.

Similar issue here. Some of my sub-customers show up and allow me to turn them into projects - but not all of them. Some are even under the same customer as others that were able to be converted. Only a select few out of over a 100 have been able to turn into projects.

Welcome to this forum, @dustinyoung. I see that some of your sub-customers are under the same customer as others are the only ones converted. And only a few have been able to turn into projects.

In your case, ensure the sub-customer is connected to only one main parent customer to make it work. It can't be a sub-customer of a sub-customer. Here's how:

Go to Get paid & pay, then select Customers.
Look for the sub-customer you want to convert, then select the sub-customer's profile and click Edit.
From the Sub-customer dropdown, select the main customer. This is also known as the parent customer.

Then, make sure also that your sub-customer doesn't have any sub-customers:

On the same page, look for any sub-customers of the sub-customer you want to convert.
Select the sub-customer's profile, then click Edit.
Uncheck the Is sub-customer box, and if there are more sub-customers, remove them as well.

I had the same problem, the fix; Go to sub-customer, check the box for "Bill with Parent" checkbox once I did that, the sub-customer will show up in the convert to project list.
