I would like to upgrade my QB Accounting Software.  One client has the 2021 version and another has the 2017 version..  If I upgrade to the 2022 version will I be able to use both client's data in the 2022 version?

You can still purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2022 Accountant edition to help your clients with QB Desktop 2021 and 2022. You can ask your client with QBD 2017 to purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 to upgrade it. Intuit will release QB Desktop 2023 next month and there is no longer a one-time license product.

Hi there, @rosytaxes.

Thanks for posting here in the Community. I'll share some insights about compatibility between you and your clients' versions of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

When you upgrade your QBDT program to the 2022 version, you'll have full access to your client's data with the 2021 version. However, for the 2017 version, you'll want to follow what Fiat Lux - ASIA has suggested above. This is because you can only access a client's file if the gap between the versions is just one year and if you have the more recent one. Once your client purchases a one-time license for QBDT 2021, you can now also upgrade their company files.

For more information about the compatibility of the versions of the accountant's copy and the QBDT program, please refer to this article: Use the Accountant's Copy.

I'm also including this link to learn what features are included in the program and how you can use them to benefit your business.: What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

Let me know if you need have further questions about upgrading your QBDT program. We're always here to help you. Have a good one.

Hi Kevin,

If I purchase QBDT 2024 Accountant's version, will I be able to open (i.e. convert to QBA) my client's QBX files generated in his 2023 Desktop Enterprise Solutions version and then send him back my QBY file generated in my QBDT 2024 Accountant's version, for him to import into his 2023 Desktop Enterprise Solutions version?

With much thanks,

HBCPA

@HBCPA

You have to use QB Desktop Enterprise Accountant 2023 or 2024 (not QB Desktop Accountant 2023 or 2024) to open your client's accountant's copy file. Another option, you can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2023 Enterprise but your client will have to stop any activity.
