Is it possible to exclude subclasses from P&L by Class Report in QuickBooks Online Advanced?

We are a non-profit with many program services.  Each program has its own fund which I am tracking through classes.  As a result, I am working with sixty-six (66) classes, sub-classes and sub-sub-classes.  I need to be able to run my P&L by Class and collapse the sub-sub-classes.  It is not efficient to export and hide columns every time I need to know the balance in various funds.  Can you help???

Is it possible to exclude subclasses from P&L by Class Report in QuickBooks Online Advanced?

Hi Jennifer,

With the number of the classes you have, I can imagine the challenge every time you pull up this report. However, exporting it to Excel is the only way to remove or hide the sub-classes at the moment.

If you have other queries please let me know.

I know accounts can be "rolled-up" for reporting and you might be able to do that with Jobs also.

I feel I should apoligze for saying so but this is a fail..... it should be a simple enough feature to add. plus it's already included in the desktop version. thanks.

This is also something I need.  Intuit, please consider adding this feature to QBO!

Hi,

How is this not a thing? PLEASE get this added/fixed ASAP. It is ridiculous that QBO does not support this basic function.

All it takes: A simple "Only show top-level Classes" would solve this and the math/implementation should be easy.

Note: Intuit has a $70B market cap and has been working on QBO for well over a decade and people still have to use the desktop version because you can't get basic functionality working.

Hello, BigSIS.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention here in the Community.

As mentioned by my colleague JessT, the only way to remove or hide the sub-classes is to export them to excel.

I can see how having this additional feature and functionality would be helpful for you and your business. While this feature isn't available, I'd recommend sending feedback to our Product Development Team. This way, they may consider adding this option to our future product updates.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top, then select Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Then select Next to submit feedback.

You can visit these websites to track your submitted feature requests through this:

This is definitely a problem with QBO.

I still do not see this as being resolved with Intuit. Why can we not get an overview report that collapses sub-classes so we can see top tier or 2nd level tier class totals by account?

I can see that the option to run a report that collapses sub-classes is crucial for your business, feelinlikeanidgit

Rest assured our product engineers are continuously discovering new ways to adapt to our customers’ needs. Your feedback helps our Product Development team determine which feature will be implemented in the next future update.

The change is also based on how popular a specific feature request is. I want you to know that your voice matters and that you being able to use QuickBooks seamlessly is my top priority. I'll be sending feedback based on this interaction to the Product Development Team for determining what we need to implement moving forward to provide you the best QuickBooks experience.

For now, you can also customize some reports to group the information info by class. To do this, go to the top of a report. Then, select Display columns by ▼ (or Group by ▼), then Classes.

You can always run reports to check sales, expenses, or profitability by business segment. This link provides an overview about what reports to use: Run reports by class.

Don't hesitate to post again if you have other QuickBooks concerns. We're always open to provide the information that you need. May your business grow and bring you prosperity!

Still a total fail with Quickbooks Online - I cannot run a report by classes with the sub-classes collapsed so only top tier classes are visible.  Have to export to excel every time.

Is it possible to exclude subclasses from P&L by Class Report in QuickBooks Online Advanced?

With the recent communications from Intuit regarding Quickbooks Desktop and the new push of Desktop customers to QBO, I began looking at QBO again last week. (I'm a CPA with a Pro Advisor Desktop subscription and ruled out QBO as an acceptable alternative last year).

Looking at it again last week after converting a Quickbooks Desktop non-profit company that I'm involved with to QBO  led me to this thread.

The reporting limitations in QBO where subclasses cannot be collapsed to a summary total in a P&L reports (similar to collapsing sub-accounts) is a huge problem and will make QBO unworkable for many Desktop customers you are pushing to migrate.  I see this thread dates back 3 years -- and very disappointed to see this reporting limitation still exists!

This really should be addressed. Why would we move from desktop if simple features like collapsing columns in a report is impossible to do in this version?  Please do better Intuit.

I would be interested to know what options that you have found that would work.  This and many other features that are missing from the online version vs desktop make alternatives worth digging into.  My email address is amys at jpgresources dot com if you would be willing to follow up.

Thanks.

The answer is that Intuit has deep contempt for its customers. QBO has been a disaster for us. I knew there would be issues, but it is far worse than even my sarcastic, cynical self imagined. For the amount of pain they are causing, I may as well find a better product, which I am in the process of doing.

Does QB not do Projects anymore?  Different than Classes but similar capabilities for sorting and reporting.

Hi there, @Teri.

Allow me to share some information about the availability of projects in QuickBooks Online.

The Projects feature in QBO is still available in certain subscriptions like QuickBooks Online Plus, Advance, and Accountant. This feature allows you to track your project’s profitability. You can input project income, expenses, and labor costs, and generate project-specific reports from a single dashboard. Additionally, you can add old transactions to new or ongoing projects if necessary.

You can check this article to learn about what features are available depending on your subscription: View Our Plans & Pricing.

Moreover, you can check these articles to learn how to set up and manage projects:

I’ll be around the corner if you need an extra pair of hands to manage projects or any QuickBooks-related matters. Stay safe, @Teri.
